Sending someone to prison for life seemed like a foolproof plan, with no downsides whatsoever. But now, Evelyn was still alive, and Wesley was out. The timing couldn’t have been better. He could once again be the sharpest tool in her arsenal to deal with Evelyn. And this time, she’d make sure to tie up loose ends by getting rid of Wesley too.

While hatching the nastiest plan in her mind, Dahlia kept her tone sweet and comforting for Wesley. “Wesley, don’t talk like that. For you and Sandy, I’d do anything willingly. You should never doubt my feelings for you.”

Her voice was laced with an added touch of sorrow. “It’s all my fault! I’m the one to blame. Dahlia, please don’t cry. Seeing you upset breaks my heart! I’ll listen to you. Whatever you want, I’m here, okay?”

On the other end, Wesley was drowning in regret, so much so that he smacked himself across the cheeks twice. Dahlia waited until he was done before pretending to intervene. “Wesley, what on earth are you doing? Hurting yourself is like stabbing me in the heart.”

“You know how much you mean to me…” Dahlia’s voice dripped with pretend anguish, which oddly filled Wesley with joy and relief.

“Alright, alright, I won’t do it again. Don’t be upset, Dahlia,” Wesley quickly reassured her. “I want to see you and Sandy. Can I come over tonight?”

It had been over two years, and he was dying to see her. He hadn’t let her visit him in prison, worried about dragging her into trouble, and bringing Sandy was out of the question. He missed them both more than anything.

Logic told Dahlia to say no right away. But as the refusal formed on her lips, the thought of Wesley’s “talents” made her hesitate, and she said, “My sink is broken.”
