In no time, thanks to the blistering heat, an expensive suit ended up with a hole in it. Ruined.

Charles: "..."

He nonchalantly grabbed another outfit and put it on. Passing the tie to Evelyn, he said, "Mind giving me a hand with this tie?"

Evelyn took it. She hadn't known how to tie one before. But for Charles, she went the extra mile to learn. Her hands were especially clumsy at this, and it took ages to get the hang of the different knots. She practiced until she nailed it, all for him.

Evelyn remembered how she used to be so humble, but she kept her face blank. Yet, when Charles looked down at her, reaching to wrap an arm around her waist, she suddenly yanked one side of the tie, tightening it.

Charles was caught off guard, his face turning a bright shade of red. Instinctively, he reached up to loosen the tie, stopping it from choking him further. Evelyn didn't resist; she let go in response. If she had nothing left to lose, she might have wanted to strangle him.

Charles met Evelyn's eyes, which were filled with resentment, took over the tie, and finished the job himself. Evelyn walked away.

...

The previous night, Wesley had spent a few hours with Dahlia, soothing his longing heart. But with Sandy, he only managed to catch a glimpse of her as she slept. She was his daughter, the only heir of the Denton family, the living proof of his love with Dahlia. How could he not adore and cherish her?

Knowing the school Sandy attended, he hung around nearby. He just wanted to see his daughter. From morning until evening when Sandy finished school, he waited. The nanny came to pick up Sandy, taking her to a nearby mall. Wesley followed discreetly. Two years ago, he had been a part of Sandy's life in this very way, until Sandy was all played out, and the nanny took her home.

Evelyn shared her suspicions with Brooks openly. "If I'm right, from the photos and videos, it's obvious Wesley cares deeply for Sandy. If he found out Dahlia was mistreating Sandy, they might turn on each other!"

No parent who truly loves their child could stand the thought of them being mistreated. If they turned against each other, Evelyn might have a chance.

"Leave it to me," Brooks said confidently.

All he needed was a sample from Wesley. This was no biggie for Brooks. When Sandy and Charles had a paternity test done, Sandy's sample was kept. Once Wesley's sample was sent for comparison with Sandy's, they would know if they were indeed father and daughter.

Brooks didn't waste any time. He quickly got the sample. The paternity test results came back soon after. Wesley and Sandy were indeed father and daughter.
