Of the C.M. Thompson stories I have ever read, perhaps the most impressive one is The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn). The story is too good, leaving me with many doubts. Currently, the manga has been translated to Chapter 351. Let's read the author's The Day Our Promise Breaks (Charles and Evelyn) C.M. Thompson story right here.
The kiss left Dahlia feeling like her whole world had flipped upside down. She could feel the underlying threat in his touch. If she didn’t follow his orders, he’d definitely run to Charles and spin a web of lies.
Wesley turned to carefully tuck Sandy in, gently brushing her cheek. He leaned down to give her a soft kiss on the forehead. Then, with a lingering look at Dahlia, he walked away. As Wesley's footsteps faded, Dahlia gripped the arms of her wheelchair tightly. This man, who would move mountains at her word, was now pushing her just for Sandy.
Fuming with anger, Dahlia couldn't help but vent her frustration by pinching Sandy's waist a few times.
...
Evelyn sat in Brooks' car, watching Wesley leave Greenrose looking completely defeated. Their eyes met for a fleeting second. She didn’t know what they had talked about, but Wesley’s expression said it all—it hadn't gone well.
“My people will keep an eye on him,” she mentioned, hoping Wesley might push Dahlia to the edge, forcing her to act against him. They couldn’t pin Charlie’s death on her, nor her grandmother’s. But if she made another move, Brooks’ team would catch her in the act. With solid evidence, even Charles wouldn’t be able to save her.
“Alright,” Brooks replied, as Evelyn massaged her temples, feeling the exhaustion set in. Her period made her feel worse than usual—drained and weary.
“I’ll drive you home so you can rest,” Brooks offered.
Once she was out, Brooks slowed the car even more. But no matter how slow, they’d eventually reach their destination. Dropping off the woman he adored at another man’s doorstep, Brooks felt a pang in his heart.
Sitting quietly, Brooks didn’t wake Evelyn right away. Instead, he unbuckled his seatbelt to watch her sleep peacefully beside him. He knew she had trouble sleeping, but her calmness by his side seemed to show a deep trust.
Brooks savored the serene moment. He noticed her jacket slipping off and gently adjusted it. As he moved back, her scent enveloped him. They were so close, their breaths mingling. Thump... Thump... His heart raced uncontrollably.
Unable to resist, Brooks let his lips brush against Evelyn’s forehead—a soft, tender kiss. But after all the restraint, it didn’t feel like enough. His eyes drifted to her lips. Logic told him not to kiss her while she was asleep and unaware. But his heart overruled his head, and Brooks leaned in to kiss her.
