When Evelyn rushed to the hospital, Adam had already been moved to a ward. On her way there, she bumped into one of Adam's teammates. He was clutching a pack of cigarettes, looking pretty grim, clearly making his way to the stairwell for a smoke.

Spotting Evelyn, he stopped in his tracks. "Is Adam okay?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

Evelyn, still catching her breath from the frantic sprint, looked at him with a mix of hope and fear. How could a car accident happen at such a crucial time? She couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to Adam. If something went wrong, all his years of hard work would go down the drain. How crushed would Adam be?

"He's not in any life-threatening danger, but his wrist... it's pretty bad. The doc said it’s basically useless now," Adam’s teammate admitted, his voice heavy with sorrow.

The ward door was closed, but through the small window, she saw Adam with his back turned. Just as she was about to enter, she noticed his shoulders shaking—he was crying. It felt like a dagger to her heart, and tears started streaming down her face again.
