Seven years ago, Evelyn managed to win over Charles's heart, even with Charlie, that little troublemaker, in the picture. Despite the mix-ups and not realizing Evelyn was actually Debbie, Charles still fell for her and cared deeply for Charlie too. If Evelyn could pull it off, so could she. She was sure she was just as good as Evelyn, if not better.

“Charles, please don’t be mad; I won’t touch you,” Dahlia said, stepping back, her eyes filled with longing as she looked at Charles, whose face was as cold as ice. “Don’t blame Sandy; she didn’t know anything.”

“It was me. I love you so much, and I want to be with you so badly that I put something in the drink Sandy gave you.”

“Charles, I really love you. I can’t live without you. I was desperate, and this was the only way left.”

“Please, don’t be angry. If I had another option, I wouldn’t have done it.”

Charles didn’t even acknowledge Dahlia’s words. He had just one thing on his mind: getting out of there. Seven years ago, he’d been caught out like this once before. That night, under the influence of a drug, he’d completely lost control.

He swore he’d never let that happen again. If he touched Dahlia, any chance with Eve would be gone.

This realization brought a bit of clarity back to him. Without a second thought, he turned to leave.

Dahlia didn’t try to stop him, just watched as he walked away and then turned to Sandy. “Sandy, go upstairs and get some sleep.”

“Mom, what’s wrong with Dad? He looks really sick, and I’m worried,” Sandy said, genuinely concerned.

She was worried and scared. The water she gave her dad had made him feel like this. Would he stop loving her because of it?

The disappointment in her dad’s eyes when he looked at her earlier was heart-wrenching. She didn’t want him to dislike her.

“Go to bed,” Dahlia said softly, though her gaze was icy. She didn’t want to say it twice, and having to repeat herself would only annoy her.

Sandy loved her mom but was also afraid of her, too worried about Charles to defy Dahlia, so she obediently went upstairs, casting glances back with every step.

Upstairs, she saw Charles at the door, struggling to open it. His expression darkened even more.

She was sure of her body, and with Charles under the influence, she thought he’d lose control at the sight of her.

Charles pressed his hand against the door, nearly overtaken by the drug’s effects. But as Dahlia reached out, he tensed up.

Despite his body’s signals, his mind was firm—he couldn’t touch anyone but Eve.

He lifted his leg and kicked Dahlia, sending her and the wheelchair crashing to the floor.

Without looking back, Charles punched the door hard, his knuckles bloodied.

The pain brought him back to his senses. Staggering, he broke through the window and got out.

“Charles!” Dahlia cried, unwilling to let him go, struggling to get up.
