"You think I did it?" Samuel's eyes narrowed dangerously.
Kylie stared him down without flinching. "Is there anyone in Seaville that you can't get information on?"
"I'm a human, not a god," Samuel said. "If I were all-seeing and all-knowing, my grandfather wouldn't have gotten sick, and you wouldn't have had the chance to force me into a marriage."
Kylie let out a cold, scornful laugh, and Samuel's expression darkened even more.
"Your grandfather's illness was an accident. Me forcing you into this marriage was opportunistic, sure. But none of that compares to a man getting beaten half to death and then dying in prison," Kylie sharply said.
"I'm the one who beat him." Samuel admitted without hesitation. He didn't even attempt to deny it.
There was no point hiding it—Kylie would've found out anyway. He'd visited Dominic just hours ago too. It wasn't exactly a secret.
Kylie stiffened. "It was you?"
She turned to the prison guard standing next to Thomas. "This is what you meant by 'rules'? He can walk in and beat a critical inmate within an inch of his life just because he's rich and powerful—but I, an ordinary citizen, don't even have the right to see him?"
The guard broke into a cold sweat, and his Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. He had no clue how to respond.
Kylie turned back to face Samuel and locked her burning gaze on him. "If I'd been allowed to see him, maybe he wouldn't be dead. If they hadn't stopped me, maybe I could've jumped on that ambulance and made him throw up the poison.
"Forget who wanted him dead—everyone here is responsible in some way."
"You're absolutely right, Ms. Clark." Thomas, who'd been quiet until now, finally stepped forward with a groveling smile. Clearly, he was trying to play it safe.
Meanwhile, Samuel's face was getting darker by the second.
Thomas wasn't stupid—he could tell this woman wasn't just an ordinary citizen. After all, no one dared to talk to Samuel like this. She might be the first to act this way toward him.
