Simone noticed Joshua staring intently at her earrings. She smiled and asked, “Is something wrong?”

Joshua replied, “Your earrings look very familiar, Miss Lerman.”

Simone lightly touched her earrings and grinned. “Aurora has a pair just like these. We had them custom-made together.”

Joshua’s eyes flickered with recognition—he must’ve seen a similar pair on Aurora before. This time, though, he kept his composure.

“Is that so?” he said, voice even.

Simone tilted her head, studying him. “Joshua, you seem really interested in my earrings. Do they mean something special to you?”

It was a casual question. She hardly expected Joshua to tell her the truth.

But to her surprise, he didn’t hesitate.

“The woman who saved my life wore earrings just like yours, Miss Lerman.”

Simone’s curiosity was piqued. “Just like mine? Are you sure? You don’t sound certain.”

He shook his head. “I’m not. I haven’t found her yet.”

His gaze fixed on Simone’s earrings. “May I take a closer look?”

“Of course.” Simone slipped one off and handed it to him with a smile.
