The wedding ceremony had reached the ring exchange segment when suddenly, a video appeared on the banquet hall's big screen. The video showed me being kidnapped and humiliated.
My fiance immediately called off the wedding and, without hesitation, slipped the ring onto my best friend’s finger.
Amidst the crowd's scorn and insults, I stumbled down the red carpet.
My best friend’s older brother, a gang boss, caught me. He silenced everyone with the sound of a gunshot and even had ten boxes of gold brought in as a dowry. In front of everyone, he proposed to me.
Moved, I agreed to marry him.
Three years later, the test-tube baby was a success. As I was eagerly about to share the good news with him, I overheard him teasing his good friend.
“Boss, you really know how to play the game. Back then, at the wedding, you aired the video of Alice Wells being kidnapped and humiliated. Only then could Miss Ruby Blake marry into the Richardson family as she wished.”
Jasper Vega, fiddling with his lighter, said, "A family like the Richardson’s would never marry a woman with a stain on her. Only when Alice was tainted could Ruby become the legitimate young mistress of the Richardson family."
His friend asked in confusion, "But Miss Blake has already married into the Richardson family. Why you marrying a woman who's tainted?"
"Because Ruby is afraid of pain, I’ll just have Alice carry the child for her. Once she gives birth to the heir of the Richardson family, Ruby's position in the family will be even more secure."
Laughter, wave after wave, filled the room, and I felt as if I had fallen into an ice cellar.
All those moments I thought were filled with happiness were actually part of Jasper’s plan to extract every last bit of value from me.
It was all to pave the way for Ruby to climb to the top over my dead body.
Wiping away my tears, I dialed the phone number of the head of his rival gang. "I have a deal worth ten billion. Are you interested?"
