Helen continued, "And Gene is buying all those land lots on a blank check. Is Lanecorp supposed to spend every last capital to outbid the richest man of the east coast? You might as well demand that we go bankrupt directly!"

Every staff member of Lanecorp was nodding repeatedly. Helen was right—Gene had nothing but money, and it was suicidal to compete against him in that front.

"Hah! I don't care!"

Nonetheless, Kallum rolled his eyes and laughed—he could not care less about anything and was even more radical after his son's death. "That still meant you failed to achieve the second task I asked, no?"

Helen frowned. "It's true, but—"

"No buts." Kallum sneered. "All I care about is results. You failed, and that's it. Hell, I don't mind telling you how much money I've siphoned off this company now… It's twelve billion dollars!"

The Lanecorp staff around them gasped right then.

They were aware that Kallum had been embezzling company money… But twelve billion was still a dizzying number!

Helen remained clearly defiant, even clenching her knuckles as she said quietly, "There's no guarantees when it comes to corporate projects, and this is one such occasion. Just tell me the third task."

"No," Kallum sneered, shaking his head. "It doesn't work that way, Helen Lane. I've only told you about the twelve billion just to see you squirm. If you want that money back, be a good girl and go to Gene Pearce, ask nicely and see if he's willing to hand them over to you. Hell, I'd suggest batting your pretty eyelashes at him, and he just might say yes…"

"Fuck off!" Helen snapped, cursing for once as she slammed Kallum's door shut.

Still, she could understand why—Cindy was only allowed to stay because of Will's promise to deliver the land lots to Lanecorp.

Now that Will had failed, she had zero cause to stay and was therefore hysterical.

That was when Helen remembered something and turned toward Frank with a hint of hope in her eyes, "You said you had an idea, and…?"

"Hehe…" Frank chuckled and nodded. "Gene may have bought those land lots, but I persuaded him to transfer the deed to us."

When he finished, there was only silence.
