“It's fine. It's not that bad anymore."
Penelope wanted to pull her hand back, but Damian held it so tightly that she failed.
"Your mom will see us when she comes back. Aren't you afraid that she will be worried?"
Penelope felt lucky when she heard this.
Fortunately, his mother had left because of some misunderstanding. Otherwise, she would be worried when she saw the mess in the room.
"Fine."
Penelope stopped trying. Damian took out the ointment for burns and scalds and carefully applied it to her hand.
His movement was careful and gentle. She just felt a feather had fallen on her hand. It felt itchy, but Penelope didn't hate the feeling.
She didn't know that the Damian she knew, who always argued with her, had such a gentle side.
Damian finished applying the ointment to her hand. He saw her staying there so quietly but didn't know what she was thinking.
She was a little calmer than usual. He realized that she was a pretty woman. She was always so noisy that he didn't have a chance to notice her beauty.
Damian held Penelope's hand and stayed in a daze for a while. He suddenly felt embarrassed when he realized what he had done. "Well, the ointment has been applied. Take a good rest here. Call me immediately if anything happens."
Penelope nodded and didn't argue with him.
Damian was relieved and left. Mrs. Garcia was outside of the room. She said when she saw him come out, "Thank you, Chen."
It was the nickname that Mrs. Garcia gave him after they've spent so much time together. She said that this made them closer. Damian didn't refuse her.
"No Problem. I bought her some supplements and some soothing music. She can listen whenever she feels like it. I'm going to visit that professor and ask him to be the surgeon of her operation. I won't be able to come for a while."
Mrs. Garcia nodded. "Okay, don't worry. I'll take good care of her. We'll wait for your good news."
She looked at Damian gratefully. "I felt bad troubling you."
Damian shook his head and talked to Mrs. Garcia for a few more minutes. He checked his watch and said, "I have to go. I have an early flight tomorrow."
"Okay, off you go."
After seeing Damian off, Mrs. Garcia went back to the room and saw what he had left behind. Everything was arranged clearly. There was some imported food with translated labels, perhaps because he was afraid she couldn't understand. The usage and dosage were clearly written on the label.
"What a great child..."
Mrs. Garcia liked Damian a lot. She hoped that Penelope could recover her vision through surgery as soon as possible and have a relationship with Damian.
...
The next morning.
Meredith got up early. She had been thinking all sorts of stuff last night. She couldn't fall asleep when she thought that she might see her real family. Naturally, she saw two huge black circles when she looked in the mirror.
Meredith took out her makeup and wanted to cover it up, but she was not in the mood. Thus, she put on a pair of sunglasses instead.
She didn't want to wear makeup now.
She waited at home for a while and received a call from Damian. He told her to get ready and that someone would come and pick her up for the 7 o'clock flight.
Meredith said okay at once. She took the suitcase that was packed and was ready to leave.
However, as soon as she went downstairs, she saw a familiar car coming.
It was Derek's car.
Meredith didn't call him, but he still came.
Derek was in the driver's seat. He pulled over when he saw Meredith with a suitcase and said, "Get in the car."
"May I have a cup of coffee, please?"
Meredith felt a little tired and wanted a cup of coffee to wake her up.
"No, a cup of milk for her would be fine."
Derek took Meredith's coffee with his large hand. "Take a nap."
Meredith thought for a moment. It would take three hours to the Capital City. It would be hard for her if she kept fighting her tiredness. She did not refuse his words.
After drinking a cup of warm milk and covering herself with a blanket, Meredith felt sleepy. She closed his eyes slowly and fell asleep.
Derek tucked her in and went to sit with Damian to avoid disturbing her sleep.
"Is the proposal done?"
Derek looked at Damian and asked.
Damian nodded and handed him a document. It was a partnership agreement with the Smiths.
Derek scanned over the documents and stopped at the profit distribution section. "Here, we might need to give them more."
Damian frowned a bit. "We've given them more than enough. We won't have any profit left if we give them anymore."
Derek started working on this agreement when Meredith thought it might be necessary to go to the Capital City.
The Smiths had always had a grudge against the Xaviers because Derek refused to connect through marriage. He didn't want to cause any trouble, so he kept his distance for all these years.
But now, he had to deal with the Smiths. He could only repair the relationship at the expense of his own profits.
But even so, Derek was not entirely sure that the Smiths would forgive him.
