It was late at night, and Meredith was tossing and turning in bed. After a long day of hard work, she was still not sleepy.
She was still worried about what she would do if Ava was willing to risk everything and expose her past. Although Parker said he would deal with it, Meredith was still afraid.
Just as Meredith sighed sadly, there was a sudden hurried knock on the door.
Meredith frowned. It was Parker's apartment. In order to make her feel at ease, he didn't stay. He just told her to call him whenever she needed help and he would be there immediately.
Was that him?
"Is that you?" Meredith walked over carefully, still on guard.
What if it turned out to be the fans or the reporters?
The man standing outside the door frowned and the ashes of cigarette in his hand fell slowly to the ground. "Who else are you expecting?"
The voice was so familiar for Meredith had heard it every day, but she still couldn't believe what she had just heard. Was that Derek?
Shouldn't he be in a foreign country thousands of miles away with the woman he liked?
Meredith was silent for a moment. "Derek?"
The man's patience was running out. "Open the door."
Derek always spoke in that commanding tone, as if the commander was giving orders to his soldiers. Meredith reached out her hand and almost did what he said, but she suddenly came to her senses.
"What are you doing here?"
Meredith still remembered what he said to her. Did he fly all the way back here just to catch her sleeping with someone else?
Would Derek be so bored?
"Open the door or I'll kick it in." Derek listened to Meredith's awkward voice and the closed door irritated him.
Now that he had found out where Meredith was, he naturally knew that this was Parker's property.
It was too obvious what the man wanted when he placed a woman in a house under his name.
The fact that he could still speak to Meredith in such a calm tone was the result of his great efforts to restrain himself.
Meredith thought for a moment. What Derek just said didn't sound like a lie. Besides, he could do such a thing, so she had to open the door.
As soon as she opened the door, a chill crept in. Derek stood outside, his perfect figure and face outlined by the soft light. Even though he should be physically and mentally exhausting for the hasty return, it did not have a negative impact on him at all.
He was still the proud and aloof Derek.
Meredith had inexplicably complicated feelings, but Derek did not pay any attention to her. He strode in and checked the room freely.
After he saw no sign of other men, Derek's stiff and taut face softened a little.
"Come back with me."
Derek glanced at Meredith. She had already changed into a full set of pajamas and looked as if she was here to stay.
"To where? the Xaviers? Are you crazy?" Meredith was amused by Derek's domineering behavior.
When she realized what he had done, Meredith's face turned red. The pain was secondary but he actually had spanked her?
"You're sexually harassing me, you rascal."
Meredith's face was as red as a ripe tomato, not sure if it was because of the position of being upside down, or because she was embarrassed.
Fortunately, it was dark now, and no one would have seen the embarrassing thing he just did, or else she would have wished to flush herself down the toilet.
"You can shout louder. I just checked. This place is not entirely deserted. You can wake them up and they can see how I'm harassing you."
Derek couldn't see Meredith's face, but her trembling voice betrayed her nervousness.
Sure enough, Meredith stopped shouting. Derek quickly walked a few steps, opened the car door, and stuffed her in.
"Fasten your seat belt."
Meredith did as she was told. At this moment, there was no reason for her to continue struggling. She didn't dare to make a sound then. Now, she slowly calmed down instead.
Derek hated her so much judging from what he said on the phone, but he still came to see her in the middle of the night. It must be something important coming up for him to be in such a hurry.
Why would he care to come and see her in the middle of the night?
She was just a nominal Mrs. Xavier. He must have come to divorce her...
Although Meredith had always been ready for a divorce at any time, she suddenly realized that it would become a reality now, and she was not as calm as she thought.
Maybe it was because she was used to the fake comfort in the Xaviers, or maybe...
