Rachel fixed her gaze on Matthew and hesitated for a moment before saying, "It's 600 thousand dollars. Aren't you satisfied with such an extravagant salary? What's keeping you so busy?"

It was unbelievable how ungrateful Matthew was. With that salary, there would have been tons of people dying to get the job. Yet, he wasn't satisfied with it.

Matthew smiled and replied, "I'm a doctor, so I'm pretty tied up."

Doctor? Rachel kept quiet and thought about how Fred had pleaded for medical help back then. He offered Matthew one billion dollars to save his life, but Matthew had turned him down.

Since Matthew had passed on one billion dollars, Racehl's salary offer didn't mean anything to him. It dawned on Rachel that Matthew was someone she simply couldn't afford.

Seeing Matthew turn down such a good deal, Brendon stepped up even though he wasn't confident. "Since he's not interested, how about giving me a shot, Ms. Carter?"

Rachel shook her head. "You just got promoted and are still under probation. It's impossible to get you another promotion right away."

Brendon was pretty bummed out. It was a shame to miss out on such a good opportunity. He'd have to slowly work his wap up.

At that moment, Matthew waved goodbye to Rachel. "I've got a few things to take care of today. I'll catch you later."

Was Matthew going to leave? Rachel followed Matthew out and asked, "Where are you going?"

Matthew checked his phone and realized he was running late. He had to hurry to pick up Lorraine. "I'm going to grab my kid from school."

After saying that, Matthew turned and walked away, whereas Rachel hurried after him. "Wait. I'm coming with you too."

After Rachel finished speaking, she started running after Matthew.

The finance manager gaped at Jared. "Is Ms. Carter dating a man with kids?"

Jared shook his head. "That can't be true. Ms. Carter is on a whole other level. She doesn't even look twice at all those rich single men around. Why would she go for a man with kids?"

Upon making contact, Hayden stumbled back a few steps. He looked at Matthew and frowned, "What's wrong with you? Watch where you're going."

Matthew was in a rush to pick up Lorraine at the kindergarten, so he didn't fuss over a trivial matter. He simply grinned and said, "Sorry about that."

Hayden was about to lose his temper, but upon seeing Matthew's apologetic attitude, he muttered, "Keep your eyes peeled. I've got other things to do today, otherwise I'd have made sure you paid for that."

Matthew's eyelid twitched a little. He couldn't believe this man talked to him like that after running into him. But then, he thought about Lorraine. If he was late, she'd probably be in tears.

It wasn't a wise move to get into a fight with a stranger and make Lorraine cry. So, Matthew acted like he didn't hear anything and walked away.

Rachel was shocked by Matthew's reaction. In the past, Rachel wouldn't have thought Matthew couldn't take this man on. But now that she knew better, she didn't expect him to put up with that.

Matthew opened the door and waited for Rachel to get in. He then started the car and quickly drove off.
