When Matthew saw Julian waving his hand over his head, he said coldly, "You're better off getting yourself a casket with that money."
"You!" An incredulous expression came over Julian. He was offering five million and still, the rascal wasn't tempted? He offered a higher amount with no hesitation.
"Ten million! I'm offering ten million! You won't ever have to worry about money for the rest of your life with ten million!"
However, Matthew was still unfazed by the amount offered. "Ten million? Do I look like someone who'd be bought over by ten million?"
Julian raised a brow as he looked Matthew up and down carefully. He did not believe that Matthew had ten million to his name.
But at that point, he was left with no more time to consider. As Matthew drew near, he hurriedly backed up. It wasn't until he backed into an office table that he stopped.
Kingston heaved a breath of relief. He was fortunate that Matthew wasn't greedy, or he'd be the one done for today. Now that he was no longer gripped by fear, he felt a sheen of sweat on his back from the fear that he'd experienced just a while ago.
The few other players who had been in the card game with Julian backed up as far up as they could, as did their bodyguards.
As Matthew drew close, Julian opened up a drawer and pulled out a pistol from it. Then, he raised the pistol and aimed it at Matthew. "Stand right there. One more step forward and I'll blow your brains out!"
A pistol? Matthew halted when he saw the pistol pointed at him. He was afraid too. He had a body of flesh and bones too. He wouldn't be able to survive it if Julian pulled the trigger.
Julian felt like he had gained control of the situation when he saw Matthew stop in his tracks. "What is your name?"
Matthew wasn't one to hide his identity. "Matthew Grant!"
Julian frowned. "Kingston has no friends or family. In fact, not even a stranger would like to talk to him. Why are you giving your life up for him? Is it worth it to sacrifice yourself for him?"
Matthew took a step back and accidentally knocked over a golf club that had been propped up against the wall. It fell over and hit Matthew on the back of his foot.
Then, an excruciating pain shot through his arm. The delayed pain was so immense that he shook from the pain.
When the rest of the people in the room saw that, they backed up even further. They seemed to be intimidated by Matthew.
Kingston paled when he saw what had transpired. He was reminded of Matthew's attitude back when he had asked Kingston for the medical book.
When he compared that with what was going on now, Kingston realized just how gentle Matthew had been with him!
Pain shot through Julian's broken arm in waves, washing over him repeatedly. He was in so much pain that he clenched his jaws tightly together, but that didn't seem to provide him any relief at all. He began spasming all over.
The pistol that he held in his broken hand clattered to the floor and skidded approximately half a yard away from where Matthew stood.
Matthew bent down to pick up the pistol, walked up to Julian, and pressed the dark muzzle on his forehead.
