Vernon looked at the fire axe sunk into his chest in disbelief. "I already apologized, and I'm willing to pay up. W-why are you still killing me?"

Matthew coldly responded, "The only thing I want is your life."

Vernon watched himself bleed out, feeling like his life was draining away. Yet, thanks to the analgesia pump, he felt no pain. The sensation was unnervingly chilling.

It was so freaking cold! It felt like he was trapped in a freezing cellar, his body trembling as his eyelids grew too heavy to keep them open.

Drawing his last breath, Vernon gritted his teeth and said, "You're just a nobody, Matthew. Even your parents are just peasants. You only made it into high society by marrying into the Carter family.

"Let's face it. You don't know how the world operates. Even though you're tough, you're no match for the Fuller family. You've no idea what kind of wealth and influence we've built over three generations.

"In the Fuller family, some have made a fortune in business, and others hold power through political ties. Some Fullers have also established their forces. You can't fathom the kind of power our family hold—"

Just then, Matthew leaned down to grab the axe's handle and yanked it out of Vernon's chest. Seeing this, he screamed in fear, his body twitching violently.

He slowly closed his eyes and went completely still. Blood was still pouring out from the wounds in his arms and legs.

A breeze drifted by, spreading the pungent smell of blood. The doctor had already fainted from sheer terror.

Lying on the ground, Desmond was bewildered as he watched the scene unfold. It wasn't until he witnessed Vernon's death that he snapped out of it.

"Y-you need to run now. The police will be here in any minute. It'll be too late if you continue to stick around."

Matthew picked up the briefcase filled with cash and set it down in front of Desmond. "I've administered some quick first aid on your leg. When you reach the hospital, the doctors can secure it with pins and a splint, so it'll be able to heal."

Desmond didn't expect Matthew to still think about his leg at a time like this.

He quickly interrupted, "Stop talking, please. Just get out of here and save yourself. Don't worry about me."

A few green vehicles rolled in from the main gate and pulled up right in front of Matthew.

At that moment, Desmond felt all hope drained away. "It's too late. You're not getting away. They're here. You're killing me with worry. Why didn't you just run?"

The doors of the cars opened, and a group of people in green uniforms got out. The person leading the group walked up to Matthew and saluted to him.

"We're here to carry out the mission, Mr. Grant."

Desmond watched in a daze, realizing Matthew wasn't just anybody.

There were more? Dominic was taken aback. He led Lucien and a few others to the roof. When they saw sniper rifles set up on the rooftop, they were all stunned.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Dominic immediately called Brad. "I'm at Woolfield's Lifehaven Pharmaceuticals in Lambda City, Mr. Miles. The people who tried to kill Matthew aren't messing around. They are armed with five sniper rifles."

Brad was startled. He knew Matthew was skilled in combat, but Matthew was only human. Bullets would still take Matthew down easily.

Upon hearing the news, Brad felt his heart skip a beat. "Sniper rifles? Is Matthew alright? Is he injured?"

Smiling, Dominic replied, "He's fine. All the shooters are dead."

Brad breathed a sigh of relief, feeling impressed. Juprus was as incredible as ever.

Against five sniper rifles, they came out unscathed and even took down the assassins. Such a feat was downright jaw-dropping.

At the same time, he also became aware of an even bigger problem. How did these crooks have access to so many guns?

Things had been too calm, and the unseen forces had grown. It was time for someone to clear out these forgotten corners in the dark.
