Kingston scratched his head. "Silas doesn't look like it at all. With that nice long hair and white outfit, he's so put together. Someone as scruffy as me feels downright shabby standing near him. Would he really dig through the trash for food?"

Without knowing Silas' history, Matthew would never believe it. After all, he looked so polished now, as though he was obsessed with cleanliness.

Silas was the total opposite of Kingston. "What you said cuts deep. Let's drop the subject. You'll be working here from now, yeah? I'm heading off."

Kingston held out his hand to stop Silas. "Hang on. What am I supposed to be doing here?"

Matthew impatiently replied, "Figure it out yourself. This is a research institute. Pick whatever direction you like and get to work. If you need money, just let me know. Just don't ask me about anything else."

Kingston nodded. "Let's leave that for now. When are you taking me to Rose Bar?"

Visiting Rose Bar again? Matthew sized Kingston up. "It's in the middle of the day. Why are you so worked up about it?"

Kingston's face turned red. "I'm just too eager to get myself a woman. Got anything else to say?"

Matthew realized Kingston could be pretty bold. He never cared about being called ungrateful before, and now he didn't mind openly saying he wanted a woman.

"Fine. I'll make some time to take you out and help you find some company."

With that, Matthew waved and turned to leave. He hurried away before Kingston could rope him into finding a partner.

Kingston looked around the office, and there wasn't a soul in there. So he headed off in the direction Silas had left.

Walking into the laboratory, he spotted a blackboard with "eldenroot" written on it as a research topic. The chemical test identified components like eldernroot peptide, eldernroot polysaccharides, eldenroot flavonoids, and eldenroot essential oils…

Kingston barely looked at it and kept walking, entering a laboratory filled with equipment. There, he found Silas fiddling with a timer, as though he was setting an alarm.

He walked over but didn't know what to say. The mood in the laboratory was pretty awkward.

Thinking he needed to break the ice and lighten up the atmosphere, Kingston smiled and asked, "Does Matthew have a girlfriend?"

Silas shot Kingston a puzzled look. He didn't know why Kingston had asked, but he replied anyway. "Yes. He does."

Everything clicked for Kingston. "That's why he's not in a hurry. Make sense now. People who have plenty don't understand what it's like to struggle."

Zachary left the two security guards behind and jogged over. "You're finally here, Matt. It feels like we haven't seen each other for a long time."

Smiling, Matthew asked, "What's up?"

Zachary was way too eager, and Matthew wasn't quite used to it.

Zachary pulled out a pack of cigarettes and handed one to Matthew. "I can now perform squats for one minute and 30 seconds, but I can't seem to progress beyond that.

"Am I doing something wrong, Matt? How about I show you my squats? Then, you can help me figure out what did I mess up."

Matthew was speechless. They were out in public.

After a pause, Matthew advised, "It's really about grit and perseverance. Now that you can do squats for one minute and 30 seconds. If you push for just one extra second each time, wouldn't you improve pretty quickly?"

Zachary thought it over and nodded. "You're right. If I hold out an extra five seconds every time, I'll add one minute to the total duration after ten days. That'll put me at two minutes and 30 seconds. I like the idea."
