In the evening, Stephen met Jeremy. 

Jeremy was thinner than he had been during their school days. His clothes were worn, and the most striking thing was how exhausted he appeared. Despite only being in his twenties, his hair had turned grey. Anyone who did not know better might have mistaken him for a man in his fifties. 

“Stephen, I’m here.” Jeremy walked to him and immediately knelt in front of Stephen. “Thank you for your help.” 

Stephen motioned for him to stand up. 

“Stephen, whatever you need, just say the word. I’ll do it, even if it costs me my life.” Jeremy looked deadly serious, his resolve unwavering. 

Stephen was pleased with his reaction. It was exactly what he had hoped for. 

“I need you to secretly investigate two companies for me.‘ 

They were the South Regent and the Spencers‘ companies.

Jeremy understood immediately. Stephen tried giving him more money, just in case anything went wrong later. However, Jeremy rejected it, stating there were still leftovers from the money Stephen had provided before. 

Jeremy rested for a night before taking action. His first target was the South Regent’s 

company because it had the lowest recruitment requirements. Even someone with just a high school diploma could get a job there, although the pay was not great. 

After entering the company, Jeremy worked diligently while secretly searching for an opportunity to investigate the company. 

Three days passed, but Jeremy had not discovered anything unusual. Everything was normal with the South Regent’s company. However, some of his actions had attracted the attention of the company’s higher management. 

Jeremy was the last to leave almost every day, even when it was well past working hours. He also frequently wandered up to the floors where the company’s executives worked, under the pretense of cleaning. It looked like he was trying to make a good impression, but the South Regent’s subordinates were not easily fooled. 

One evening, after getting off work and returning home, someone covered Jeremy’s mouth from behind, making him lose consciousness. 

When he woke up, he found himself tied up, his hands and feet bound, and a blindfold over his eyes. All he could sense was that he was in a moving vehicle. 

He had no idea how much time had passed until suddenly, the black cloth covering his eyes was removed. The intense light made him squint and it took him about a minute to adjust.

Jeremy said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I was just working.” 

The South Regent snorted and picked up a document. “Jeremy Davis, twenty–three years old…” 

Listening to information about himself, Jeremy’s eyes widened. The man had found out everything about him!
