Chad's voice grew louder and louder, so much so that it was painful to the ears.
Lorraine lay on the hospital bed with her hands covering her ears.
Mom couldn't stand it any longer as she yanked open the door and locked eyes with Chad.
"And who are you supposed to be? Get lost," Chad snarled.
Chad was incredibly rude to Mom. As I stood by Mom's side, I said, "Can you afford to use that tone with her right now?"
Gerald had met Mom a few times before, and he knew she was a part of the Joplin family.
"Mrs. Joplin, are you aware that your son has imprisoned my daughter?" Gerald put on an overly polite tone and tried to act like a gentleman.
"She's my daughter-in-law. How exactly has she been imprisoned?" Mom replied in a calm tone.
"But he's not letting me see my own daughter. How is that okay?" Gerald pressed.
The commotion started to draw a growing crowd, which gave Gerald the perfect opportunity to launch an attack on Lorraine.
"All of you, come look at this daughter of mine. She's working with others to hurt her own father. Her brother's been missing for a few months, and she refuses to tell me where he is even though she knows. How could someone like that exist?" Gerald started.
Chad played along with Gerald's lead as he sobbed. "Just look at my father's eye. That man hit him."
Some people took out their phones to record the scene while others started to discuss it.
In less than half an hour, news of me preventing Gerald from seeing his daughter made headlines.
"Gerald, do you still want to know Sam's whereabouts or not?" I asked in a cold tone, not caring about appearing in the news once again.
He fell silent at my words. "Are you willing to tell me now?"
"How can I tell you where he is with the way you're acting?" I retorted.
Then, I addressed the crowd, "All these people here are helping you control the narrative. Now, I'm just a man who hit his own father-in-law."
