It was almost time to eat, and I needed to get back to my wife.

"You're finally home after so long. Stay for a meal," Grandma said. It was obvious that she was trying to stall for time.

I took a step back and distanced myself from her. "Grandma, my wife is waiting for me at home. Now, how do I take everything back with me?"

Grandma took a deep breath and tried to suppress her anger as she looked at me. Her eyes that always used to seem so clear now had a hint of weariness to them. She had been under a lot of stress lately.

"I'll have Frankie sort everything out and send it to you," she said.

"How long will that take?" I had no interest in haggling over a bit of money.

Grandma tapped her cane on the floor in frustration. "Are you really determined to sever ties with the Joplin family?"

"Didn't I make myself clear enough?" I spread my hands wide, but Grandma was too serious and insisted on a reason.

"Grandma, I'll still be your grandson. It's just that from now on, whatever happens to the Joplin family will have nothing to do with me," I said as I looked at Henry.

He merely stood there motionless, as if the pen in his hand was just a decoration.

"Haven't you finished signing it?" The whole reason I came here was to make him sign the divorce agreement.

He hesitated for a long time, unwilling to put pen to paper. It was obvious that he was losing his temper as well.

He looked up and paused for a moment when he looked into my eyes. Then, he said, "Why are you rushing me? I'm still your father. Can't you show some respect?"

I grasped his hand. "I've already shown you a lot of respect. If you don't know how to sign your name, I don't mind helping you."

"Let me go, you useless brat!" As he struggled, Henry raised his other and aimed a slap at me.

Watching his hand swing toward me, I raised my elbow and struck his palm. "What are you trying to do?"

"You're forcing me to divorce your mom. Is this what a son is supposed to do?" Henry knew he couldn't argue with me, so he resorted to moral blackmail.
