My cheeks heat up slightly, making her chuckle before leaving the room.
“Will you be alright? I can walk you home.”
“Carter, I just walked you home. If you walk me home, I’ll just have to walk you right back.” Noah rolls his eyes.
After a very awkward dinner which consisted of me kicking Noah’s shin under the table and him kicking me right back, and everyone constantly looking between the two of us, Tanya made him walk me home.
“Whatever.” I shrug. “Just don’t blame me if you run into Pennywise and I’m not there to protect you.”
“Later, Carter.” He rolls his eyes, but I see a hint of a smile on his face before it disappears and he starts walking down my driveway.
“Hey, King?” I call making him stop halfway down my driveway and turn around to look at me.
“What, Carter?” He calls back.
“Shot for walking me home.” I thank. “Shot is Kiwi slang for thanks, by the way.”
“I guessed.” He shakes his head slightly, a small smile on his face. “And no problem.”
I turn back around and silently open the front door of my house and step inside.
Please be asleep. Please be asleep.
“Where the hell have you been?!”
And she’s not asleep.
“I was at a friend’s house.” I say simply, shutting the door behind me.

“YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED! NOT HEAVEN! YOU!”
I shake my head, shutting my bedroom door and falling on my bed.
“I’ve been thinking the same think for the last two years, mum.” I whisper, feeling the tears well up in my eyes roll down my cheeks.
My eyes flutter open and I groan as my head aches.
I roll off my bed and walk to my mirror.
My eyes are red and puffy.

Chapter 12
I sigh, walking out of the room and to the bathroom, brushing my teeth and rinsing my face with cold water.
I’m sad.
Well, when am I ever happy?
But I woke feeling really sad and down.
Ugh, I want Tanya!
I trudge downstairs and my mother is nowhere in sight.
I look around the living room and shake my head.
This place looks like a fucking pigsty.
I walk into the kitchen and take some Ritalin which Noah had given me last week. I grab some cleaning supplies before walking into the kitchen walking back into the living room.
I take off the football hoodie, not wanting to get it dirty.
Let’s get down to business…to defeat the Huns, HUH!..I’m sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
An hour and a half later, I’m done cleaning the house.
I walk upstairs and change into a pair of jeans and a black tank top, throwing the football hoodie back on.
I walk downstairs just in time for the doorbell to ring.
I look through the peephole and see Noah’s ever–brooding face.
I pull the hood over my face and open the door.
“Hey, Carter-” he cuts himself off as his eye travel down to the hoodie. “Where the hell did you get that?!”
“Your mum gave it to me to wear last night, asshole. You know, after the whole fizzy drink accident that you caused.” I tell him. “And how did you o notice I’m wearing it now?”
“It was dark last night!” He defends himself. “Take it off!”
“No!” I shake my head. “What’s the big deal?! It’s just your old football hoodie!”
“It’s not mine!”
“What?”
“I–whatever. Just…just give it back as soon as possible…please.” He calms down. “Max and Dylan wanted to know if you wanted to go to the Go Kart track with us.”
“Uh, no. Thanks for asking, though.” I decline his offer.
“What’s wrong?”
“What?” I snap my head up to look at him.
“You seem a bit down.” He states. “Are you alright?”
“Y–Yeah, I’m fine.” I stutter. How did he notice I’m sad?
“No, you’re not.”
“And how would you know if I’m fine or not?” I question him.
“Is anyone ever actually fine when they say the words ‘I’m fine‘?” He raises a brow.
“Well, I’m fine! Just leave me alone!” I slam the door in his face, locking it.

I feel really terrible for doing that.
I hear him growl in anger before his footsteps walk off the porch and a car door slams shut.
I groan, slamming my head against the door. “Why am I so bad at being good with people?!”
