Chapter 550
Theo puffed out his chest proudly. “Don’t worry! I saw this cong ages ago. I’ve already hidden Mommy’s address and phone number in my Superman undies! The Great Demon King will never find inf
“Wait… Will blinked, completely battled. “Why would you hide in your
underwear?
“Because that’s where I stash my secret money! I’ve fooled Mommy so many times!”
Watching his little brother’s triumphant expression, Will sighed wardly. He pondered, ‘Maybe Mommy wasn’t fooled; she was just too tired to bother exposing him.
Still, when will she be back?
Even if Dad knows where she is, he probably won’t go after her.
More than finding her, it seems like Dad just wants to know if she is doing okay
Thinking about it, Will felt a pang of sympathy for his father. What could he have done to deserve being ghosted by Mom? He thought, ‘Maybe I should cut Dad some slack and let him off the hook for that last patch of weeding in the yard. On the third floor, Byron stood in Theo’s room, holding the “secret” Superman undies Theo thought were so well hidden. Aslip of paper was tucked into his hand as he stepped out of his son’s room.
He returned to the master bedroom and noticed his phone buzzing on the table. Without hesitation, he answered and switched it to speaker. “What is it?”
“Mr. Byron, Molly’s whereabouts are still unknown, It’s likely she’s gone into hiding,” Archer’s voice came through the line. “Additionally, her account recently received a large, unexplained deposit. I suspect someone might be helping her stay hidden.”
Byron’s dark eyes narrowed. “Keep digging. Find her.”
“Understood. Leave it to me.”
Setting the phone down, Byron unfolded the note in his hand.
Written on it was an address: South City,
Seasons Guesthouse.
The information came along with a landline number.
He input the number into his phone, but his finger hovered over the dial button, motionless. The screen reflected his deep, stormy gaze.
His pale hand trembled faintly, the veins on the back of it taut, as though he was holding back something intense.
After a long pause, Byron saved the number to his contacts.
He stood up and walked toward the wardrobe without a word, his expression unreadable.
The next morning, chatter about the Mcdaniel Group’s latest giveaway event filled the air. Apparently, something big was brewing, and last night’s announcement had stirred up excitement,
Chapter 530
Maeve sat in the corner of the guesthouse dining room, nibbling on a sandwich, her lashes lowered to hide her thoughts
What was Byron planning with all this noise?
Since sneaking out after he fell asleep that night, she was sure he been furious,
Byron had fought to control his desires all night, but by morning she was gone without a trace.
This was the boldest, most impulsive thing she’d ever done, and he didn’t regret it.
Finishing her breakfast. Maeve grabbed the medicine for Esmed headed to the courtyard.
As she stepped outside, she spotted Aiden standing there, looking as though he’d just been chased off again.
Aiden, however, took it all in stride, his shoulders sagging only slightly as he turned toward the gate, just in time to bump into Maeve.
“Morning,” she greeted, raising a hand. She decided not to ask about the scene she’d just witnessed. “Breakfast was pretty good today. Have you eaten yet?”
“Not yet. I’m heading there now,” Aiden replied with a small nod before strolling away.
Maeve stepped into the courtyard, where Esme was washing the berries. She joined in to help and casually asked, “Esme, what did he want this time?”
Esme huffed. “That guy wants my son to testify in some big case, Ridiculous! My son’s in no condition to be dragged into something like that.”
“What kind of case?” Maeve asked, furious.
“About two weeks ago, there was that pwful arson case in an apartment. So many people were hurt, some even died, and there were kids involved, too. Turns out, it was started by a girl. The police caught her red–handed, no way she could deny it It’s just heartbreaking.”
Maeve blinked, her confusion growing. “If the evidence is so clear, why would your son need to testify?”
“Just that man, they say he’s a top lawyer, well–known and respected in the legal world. But in my opinion, he’s just a heartless money–driven scoundrel! To think he defended a murderer just for money, and even tried to get my son to testify. Can you
believe that?!” Esme was furious.
“It’s clear as day that girl’s the one who started the fire, but he’s trying to drag my son into the mess, just to keep his perfect. win record intact. A man like that, with no conscience… you tell me, what kind of person does that?”
Maeve hesitated. “Could it be a misunderstanding? Maybe the girl really is innocent
And… honestly, Aiden doesn’t seem like the type to defend someone guilty just for his reputation. He even helped me yesterday when I almost slipped by the lake.”
Esme paused, her hands slowing as she washed another basket of berries.
