Chapter 674 novel The Indifferent Ex-Husband: Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate
Brandon's tall figure, backlit against the light, suddenly planted itself in front of her, the sense of oppression hitting her like a ton of bricks.
Sophia instinctively wanted to stand up, but Brandon lightly pressed down on her shoulder, stopping her, and took a seat next to her on the empty chair.
As he pocketed his phone, he turned his head to look at her.
"What's got you so spaced out?" he repeated his earlier question.
"Nothing much."
His move to sit beside her ramped up her anxiety. She unconsciously scooted over, then halfway through, she felt like she was overdoing it and had to awkwardly stop, forcing a smile and saying, "Just some weird flashes popped into my head when I walked past the cafeteria today."
Brandon's gaze sharpened a bit, "What kind of flashes?"
Sophia: "A girl confessing to you."
Brandon: "..."
"But it was so fleeting, I couldn't even make out the girl's face."
Sophia tried to recall the scene, "I just vaguely remember she was looking up at you with courage, eagerness, confidence... it was... kinda enviable."
Brandon looked at her, "Maybe it's something you've always wanted to do but never dared to. That's why you're fantasizing about it."
"..."
Sophia's face turned red, "As if I'd ever want to do that."
"Why not?"
Brandon said, "You used to have the hots for me."
Sophia: "..."
"Anyway, I can't remember a thing now, so whatever you say goes—I've got no evidence to argue with you."
It took Sophia a while to squeeze out a response.
A hint of amusement twinkled in Brandon's eyes, "There might be some misleading stuff out there, but my claim about you liking me is legit. If you don't believe me, ask Susan."
Sophia didn't take the bait and smoothly changed the subject, "Like what, for example?"
"Huh?"
Brandon seemed caught off guard by her change of topic and softly echoed her question.
"What other things might be misleading me?"
Sophia nudged him for an answer, "Like what?"
"Like you thinking I'm cold-hearted. I admit that's partly true, but not entirely."
Brandon picked up the conversation naturally.
Sophia frowned, "Examples?"
"Like when you were ranting in the hospital about me working with you on the school science museum design."
Brandon casually brought up the time she'd griped about his aloofness, "When President Poe showed me your design, I recognized your style instantly and couldn't wait to add you on WhatsApp to send you a video. But then someone else picked up your phone. You can imagine how bummed I was."
"It's tough to stay passionate about work when you're dealing with a massive letdown."
Brandon said, looking at her, "I called you with so much anticipation, thinking you were you, but then the message I got was that you weren't. How could I just pretend nothing happened and discuss work with you?"
"Well..."
Sophia thought for a moment, "You could've just cleared things up."
Brandon: "Who has the time to chat?"
Sophia gave him a look that seemed to agree, nodding, "Alright, we'll give you a pass for that one. But what about the second time? The time you asked me to revise the design. You couldn't spare a moment then either?"
