Balfour asked again. “Did you just publicly expose Patri?”

Balfour huffed. “Then, what’s the deal with you having my grandfather acknowledge you as his granddaughter?” 

Ellinor answered “Old Mr. Bagley took a liking to me, I didn’t want to be rude, so I agreed 

Balfour chuckled. “So, you were forced?” 

Ellinor nodded, “Yes, I felt very compelled” 

Balfours expression turned icy in an instant 

Before, he admired Ellinor’s work ethic and had a certain inexplicable fondness for her, thinking she was different from those other cunning women.

If it weren’t for Grandfather’s birthday dinner today, Ellinor would’ve loved to have a face–off with Balfour. 

Ellinor took a deep breath, not wanting to engage with this man, and turned around to leave.
