Dale looked thoughtfully at Caleb, and perhaps at Sophie, who was covered in a veil beside him. “Should I call you Sophie, or Mrs. Nevill?” Finally, it was Eliza’s turn. She sat back in her seat, her gaze falling lightly on Sophie as she asked the question.

Underneath the veil, Sophie had no idea who was watching her or why. To her, it was all the same–a crowd of spectators and performers.

Sophie clenched her hands tightly. After a brief pause, she tore the veil off her head in one swift motion.

“Sophie, what are you doing? Put the veil back on, now.”

Caleb reached out, trying to grab the veil from her hands.

Sophie, still not fully grasping the situation, let out a cold laugh. “Your Grace, you claim to be here to deliver a gift, but it doesn’t seem entirely so.”
