Armata / Levi
As she storms out, her dark hair flowing like a river of midnight behind her, I can’t help but feel a tinge of amusement. Feisty, spoiled, and seemingly oblivious to the gravity of her situation—that’s Calista. Yet, the way her blue eyes bore into mine for that split second tells me there’s more to her than the bratty exterior.
She’s a firecracker, this one. High maintenance, undoubtedly, but also... intriguing. A challenge. The word crosses my mind, and I almost smirk at the thought.
“Stubborn, isn’t she?” Alpha Dimitrios says, a hint of rueful pride in his voice as he glances at the closed door.
I turn my attention back to Alpha Dimitrios, who has been watching the exchange with the scrutiny of a man who trusts no one when it comes to his family.
“She’s quite the handful,” I remark, keeping my tone neutral.
“You have no idea,” he replies, sighing. “But she’s my daughter, and I’d kill to protect her.”
“Understood. You won’t be disappointed in my services.”
From a locked drawer, he pulls out a stack of papers and slides them across the desk to me. “These are the threats we’ve received. They’re detailed, disturbing, and the more recent ones have information they should not be able to know. Locations, schedules, personal habits...”
Opening the folder, my eyes quickly scan the contents. Letters, emails, and even disturbingly specific sketches. They’re not just threats; they’re intimate invasions. Each message sends a jolt of alertness through me. Locations, times, personal habits—they know more than they should, even details that are well-guarded secrets. My gut clenches at the sight, and I feel that old, predatory instinct rise within me, urging me to hunt and to eliminate.
“I’ve made many enemies in my time, Armata,” Dimitrios says, using the codename that’s been assigned to me for this mission. “I can handle threats against myself, but when it comes to my daughter, it’s a different beast. I need assurance that you can protect her, even from herself if need be.”
I look up from the papers, locking eyes with the Alpha. The room grows tense, like the moment before a storm breaks. “You have my word. I’ll protect her, even if it’s from her own recklessness.”
Alpha Dimitrios studies me for a moment, as if weighing the sincerity of my vow. Then he nods, seemingly satisfied. “I know your reputation, and I’ve seen the darkness you carry. If anyone can protect my daughter, it’s you.”
The mention of my “darkness” hits closer to home than I care to admit, but I keep my face impassive. “I won’t let you down,” I say, tucking the threats into the inside pocket of my jacket. “I assume I’m free to handle this as I see fit?”
“As long as my daughter stays safe, do whatever you must.”
“Security will be tightened immediately. I’ll also need access to her daily schedules and any upcoming events she plans to attend. The more I know, the better I can protect her.”
Dimitrios leans back in his chair, studying me. “Very well. You will have everything you need at your disposal. Security details, schedules, access to her personal spaces—everything. Do not hesitate to use whatever resources you require. But remember, Calista is not one to be controlled easily. You’ll have to find a way to keep her safe while giving her the illusion of freedom.”
A wry smile pulls at the corner of my mouth. “Let’s just say I’ve dealt with stubbornness before,” I reply. “If she chooses to fight me every step of the way, she’ll find I’m not easily swayed. I have a job to do, and I intend to do it.”
