ASHANTI'S POV.

Blink.

Blink again. My eyes snap open and the illuminated chandelier hanging from the ceiling above comes into view. The light rays from the beaming object burns my eyes so I turn my head in the opposite direction to escape them. My head feels like there are a hundred drums playing in it. There's a gnawing feeling in the pit of my stomach which I recognize as extreme hunger. My throat is as dry as a dessert and my mouth tastes like death.

As I look around, the unfamiliarity of the bedroom drives panic into my soul. It looks too sophisticated to be the bedroom Tessa and I shared at the Harem a few months ago. It doesn't look like the bedroom we were upgraded to in the premium residence. It's definitely not Alpha Reagan's bedroom, neither is it the bedroom at the penthouse house he had locked me in.

Where the hell am I?

The last time I was conscious, I was locked up in a dungeon cell, weak to the bone and crying lifelessly for my mother to come and save me. I blacked out all of a sudden and now I find myself in this bedroom, feeling like I just resurrected from the dead.

Or maybe I'm dead and I'm in the land of the dead.

I better go out and see for myself.

I peel the duvet off of me and take a brief moment to appreciate the cosiness of the matching trouser and shirt pyjamas I'm putting on. A throbbing headache nearly splits my forehead in two halves when I look down at the floor, searching for something I can wear on my feet. I don't see anything so I step down barefooted and rise from the bed. My eyes skim around the bedroom once more as I search my mind, trying to recall if I've been in it before, but nothing comes to mind.

It's not my bedroom at my father's castle either. It's no bedroom I have ever been into. Sighing lightly, I head to the door and daintily push it open. I poke my head out and I'm greeted with a long hallway that leads to a staircase in the distance. Without second thoughts, I step out of the bedroom, into the hallway with my heart threatening to beat itself out of my chest.

I don't know where I am. I don't know if what I'm doing is dangerous or not, but what I do know is that I'm going to go crazy if I stay in this strange bedroom for another minute.

Sighing heavily, I muster up courage and step into the hallway. I shut my eyes close, pin my hands by my side and exhale heavily before taking the next step forward. Another step, another and another and soon, I'm at the staircase landing. From here, I can hear voices of people talking downstairs, but I cannot make out what they are saying. My heart rate skyrockets. My bones start buckling and there's this tiny voice within me, warning me to turn around and go back to the bedroom, but I don't listen to it. I'm too curious, too anxious to not ride on with this journey of discovery.
