Chapter 829 A Warning

“Why did you come after me?” Renee complained.

Colin stammered through his explanation, “I-I was worried that the Coopers would bully you, so I chased after you with some reinforcements. Plus, this island is dangerous. I wanted to protect you myself.”

Renee replied curtly, “I don’t need your protection. Jared, Josephine, and Lizbeth are more than enough. It’s not like you can win anyone with your current abilities anyway.”

Her scathing reply put Colin in an awkward position. Eventually, he muttered, “We have many skilled fighters in our family. I didn’t bring them all along on this trip. Don’t write me off because of my weak skills. I’m willing to risk my life to protect you.”

His bold vow stunned Renee into silence. The young woman had never received such a heartfelt confession in her lifetime.

Noticing that her friend was at a loss for words after Colin’s curveball of a confession, Josephine stepped forward and tugged on Renee’s arm. She pulled Renee behind her and barked at Colin, “Don’t even think about fooling Renee. Rich playboys like you are only good for your silver tongues.”

Josephine then dragged Renee along as she turned and left. Lizbeth pointed a warning finger at Colin and hissed, “Don’t you dare follow us.”

The three ladies continued following Jared while Colin and his group trailed them from some distance. His stalking irked Josephine and Lizbeth to no end.

Jared tried to pacify them by saying, “Let them follow us. Just ignore him.”

Jared had long dismissed Colin’s presence as a threat despite his playboy behavior. In any case, the men Colin had brought with him were weak fighters, and if push came to shove, Jared knew he could defeat them easily.

They had been walking some time when a menacing howl pierced the silence.

The suit-clad man turned around slightly and noticed his spectators. He could not help but frown.

He had gone two rounds with the white wolf before this. Though he had not successfully killed the beast, he had the upper hand, and victory was merely a matter of time. Then, he would be able to kill the wolf and obtain its beast core.

Now that he had an audience, however, the suited man knew that it would be more difficult to escape with the beast core.

Jared stared at the humongous wolf and exclaimed in awe, “I never imagined there would be such a fierce white wolf in such a cold place. We might encounter more frightful creatures on our journey.”

Jared did not know if he would find the rumored Ice Dragon and Flame Dragon on this island or if he even could defeat them and obtain the draconic essence. If a white wolf was already this strong, the two dragons were undoubtedly more powerful. The thought sent chills down Jared’s spine.
