Josiah’s words eased some of the tension in Finley’s heart. He turned his gaze to Samantha. “Is what the old man said true?” 

Otherwise, why would Finley think she’d be willing to marry Noah? 

Samantha nodded. “Yes, it’s true.” 

When Finley heard Samantha’s confirmation, his brow furrowed. He had thought she had come today to betray him and conspire with Noah against him. Instead, she had come to break off her engagement with Noah. 

Having been poisoned and hunted in the past, Finley had developed a deep–seated mistrust of others. Despite telling himself repeatedly that Samantha was the one person he could trust, he hadn’t fully convinced himself. Now, guilt washed over him. He realized he had wronged her. Before he could finish, Samantha gently pressed her hand against his mouth. “Finley, you don’t need to

She figured the reason Finley had shown up today was because she secretly went to dinner with the Hunter Family. He must have followed her here out of jealousy. 

A man who was willing to get jealous for a woman’s sake was one who started to care for and love her. 

Samantha had worked hard for so long. It had taken a great deal of effort to finally get Finley to care for and love her, so how could she possibly be angry with him now? 

With that thought, she wrapped her arms tightly around Finley. “I’m really glad you came today.” 

Noah was stunned but also upset. 

He couldn’t stand seeing Samantha and Finley holding each other so affectionately in front of him. Just as he was about to intervene, Josiah grabbed his arm. “It’s getting late, and dinner should be ready. Mr. Dean, if you don’t mind, why don’t you stay and have dinner with Samantha?” 

Finley’s gaze darkened as he looked at Josiah, after which he nodded. “Alright. Sam is probably hungry, too. We’ll stay for dinner and then head back.” 

Seeing that Finley had agreed, Josiah hurried to the kitchen to instruct the servants to prepare extra utensils. Soon, everyone was seated at the table, each lost in their thoughts.

Throughout the meal, Finley kept serving Samantha food, and she did the same for him. They were completely focused on each other, oblivious to the others at the table. 

Watching Finley place a piece of meat into Samantha’s bowl, Noah couldn’t hold back. He spoke up, trying to sound knowledgeable. “Mr. Dean, you keep saying you care about Samantha, but from where I’m sitting, it doesn’t look like you do. You don’t even know she doesn’t eat that. How can you say you care for her?” 

Finley frowned and turned to Samantha. “You don’t like meat?” 

Samantha blinked and took the piece of meat Finley had given her, chewing thoughtfully. With a smile, she replied, “I like it. After all, I’m not a picky eater. I’ll eat whatever you give me.” 1 

Finley and Noah were both speechless. 

“Samantha, I don’t get it. You’ve never liked that. Why are you pretending to enjoy it just to please Finley?”
