The officer responded, “Samantha was acting in self–defense. Moreover, she didn’t initially intend to hit you. You provoked her first, so her actions were defensive, and we have no authority to intervene. Additionally, you didn’t call for help, so there was no need for us to get involved.”

Clearing her throat, she finally said, “I believe you’re all siding with Samantha.” 

The officers, maintaining their stern demeanor, replied, “Hazel, we’re merely presenting the facts. This situation began because of your actions. Furthermore, your false report is wasting. valuable police resources. If you weren’t a student, we’d be taking you to the station for a proper reprimand.” 

Hearing this, Hazel fell silent, unsure of how to defend herself. 

With great effort, she pushed herself off the ground and asked Samantha, “I’ve agreed to everything now. Can I leave?” 

Samantha responded coolly, “You haven’t compensated me yet for twenty times the cost of my phone. Will you be transferring the money, or would you prefer to write a check?”

Samantha replied, “I’m already being lenient because you’re my senior. I’m valuing the phone at two thousand dollars each. If you weren’t my senior, I’d charge you ten thousand per phone. So, you should be thankful for your senior status.” 

Hazel clutched her chest, exasperated. “Are you seriously expecting me to thank you?” 

Samantha waved her hand dismissively. “No need for thanks. Just pay the remaining thirty thousand in full.” 

Why was Samantha being so unreasonable?
