you, keeping them around will just make things harder for you. Moreover, with the weather 

so warm, wearing that mask every day must be suffocating. So from now on, Finley, no more 

masks while you’re at home. You can save it for when you go out.” 

Finley had the sense that Sam, his wife, never saw him the way others did. No matter how

He gently took the mask from Samantha’s grasp and set it aside. “You’re right. From now on,

need is you, Sam.” 

With genuine concern, she tenderly cupped his face and brushed the sweat from his forehead. 

“Finley, I swear I’ll do everything I can in my studies and find a way to heal your scars.” 

Not wanting her to feel overwhelmed, he reassured her “Even if it can’t be fixed, that’s 

alright.” After all, he had already found someone who accepted him as he was–and that was 

more than enough. 

Three years ago, when his disfigurement was fresh, he found it hard to accept as his ghostly 

visage was something he couldn’t endure. Yet, as time passed, he began to use that very face 

to gain insight into the people and circumstances around him. 

In that journey, he discovered a vital truth: A woman who genuinely loved a man won’t be concerned about his appearance, his financial status, or his ability to fulfill her desires. If her love was profound, she would embrace all his imperfections, just as Sam did with him. The more he reflected on this, the more he felt fortunate to have met Sam. 

Once Samantha finished brushing off the sweat from Finley’s brow, she caught him gazing at 

her mesmerizingly. She was amused. “Why are you staring at me?” 

“You’re gorgeous, that’s why,” he replied.

She blushed. “You’re at it again, always with the sweet talk. Pulling her hand back, she 

added, “Go wash up and get ready for dinner. Didn’t you say you were starving? 

His amber eyes gleamed mischievously. “I am hungry, but the hunger is not from my 

stomach–it’s from somewhere else.” 

Somewhere else? It took her a moment to process what he meant before her face turned 

crimson. “Finley, you’re awful!” Embarrassed, she hurried off to the bathroom to wash her 

hands, still flustered. 

Finley ran a hand over his prominent nose and mused, don’t women like a bit of mischief in 

men? So, what’s the issue right now? Hadn’t Edmond mentioned that women appreciate 

flattery? And if they don’t like liars, wasn’t I just being honest about what I wanted? So why 

did Sam react by calling me awful? 

He trailed behind her and stepped into the bathroom with her. Seeing her rosy cheeks, he gently embraced her from behind. “Sam,” he whispered. “Hmm?” she murmured in response. “I’m starving.” Her face grew even redder as she quickly said, “Then go have something to 

cat.” 

“What if I’m hungry somewhere else?” he teased with a smirk. 

She shot him an annoyed look through the mirror. “It’s the same solution. Eat.” 

“But that’s not what it’s craving,” he murmured. Before she could reply, he leaned in and whispered something in her ear, causing her face to flush even redder than ever before.
