The moon hung high in the sky, a radiant orb casting its silvery glow over the gathered pack. Its light illuminated every face in the crowd, shimmering on the soft rustle of leaves and the warmth of the bonfire crackling at the heart of the clearing. The rhythmic beating of drums echoed through the night, blending with the hum of whispers and the occasional human bowls.

I stood between Elijah and Isaiah, their presence like an anchor as I canned the scene. The Alpha and Luna stepped onto the raised platform, their commanding auras drawing every eye. The clearing grew quiet, anticipation thick in the air as the pack prepared to offer their prayers to the Moon Goddess.

Elijah leaned down, his voice a soft murmur against my ear. One day, that’ll be us standing there.

I turned my head sharply, staring at him in disbelief. His face was serious, no trace of the teasing smile I expected. I opened my mouth to argue, to tell him how absurd that sounded, but the weight of his words stopped me. For a moment, the world around us faded, being his mate meant that at some point I’d stand next to him as his Luna once his father leaves the position of Alpha of our park.

Before I could find the words, the Luna began to speak, her voice strong and melodic as she led the pack in prayer. The sound pulled me back to the present, and I joined the others in bowing my head.

As the prayers reached their crescendo, the moon’s light began to shift. It grew brighter, more radiant until it seemed to pulse with life. A collective gasp rippled through the crowd as the moon’s glow descended, wrapping the clearing in an ethereal brilliance.

I blinked, trying to adjust to the intensity of the light, but something felt off. The warmth that had been simmering in my chest all evening now burned fiercely, coursing through me like wildfire.

Stormi?Alex’s voice was tight, laced with concern.

I’m fine,I managed, though my voice wavered.

But I wasn’t fine. My feet felt unsteady, the ground beneath me swaying. Then, without warning, my body lifted into the air, an invisible force pulling me upward.

Gasps and cries of surprise filled the clearing as I floated above the crowd, my arms hanging limply at my sides. Panic surged through me, but it was drowned out by a strange, calming presence that enveloped me.

A glow appeared around me, soft and shimmering, and within it, the outline of a massive wolf took shape. It wasn’t just any wolfit was ancient, and majestic, its eyes glowing with a wisdom that seemed to pierce my soul.

Then came the whispers, soft and melodic, like a lullaby carried on the wind.
