Nathan asked with a frown, “Faustus? Who the hell is he?”
Colin replied, “He's the subordinate of the Goldstein family from Brimmopolis.”
“The Goldstein family? Why are they coming after my wife when I have never offended them?”
Colin orated, “Do you still remember Clifford's previous spouse, Gillian? She's the heiress of the Goldstein family. The duo has a son, Ceaser. Ever since they filed for divorce, they became closer than ever. Since Clifford has the chance to become the president, the Goldstein family will definitely support him with everything they have.”
He paused and raised his concerns, stating in a hushed voice, “I believe they are the one behind the assassination of Mrs. Cross and the reason you have been dispatched back to the North.”
Nathan's expression darkened when he heard Colin's words.
After hesitating for a few seconds, Colin decided to tell Nathan the thing he had on his mind. “Instead of Mrs. Cross, I believe you're the one they're coming after. Perhaps they want to throw you off balance by putting Mrs. Cross's life at stake. Once you commit any mistake, they'll grab the opportunity and take you out immediately.”
Nathan dead-panned, “They're such a vicious bunch!”
Colin surveyed the surroundings and noticed they were quite a distance away from others.
Since others couldn't hear their conversation, he suggested, “General, perhaps it's merely a baseless accusation when the Cabinet said Xyperia would ambush the North soon. I'm certain those from Xyperia don't have the gut to wage war against the North, but those from the Goldstein family may come after Mrs. Cross again since they couldn't get her during their last attempt. In my humble opinion, you shouldn't return to the North because Mrs. Cross needs you by her side.”
Nathan shook his head and rebuked, “No! Xyperia is intimidated by the North because they're not aware of my absence. What if they figure out I'm not there and decide to try their luck? I can't allow them to launch an ambush on the North! Apart from that, the Cabinet has instructed me to return to the North. If I don't adhere to the instruction, they'll make a fuss out of it and get rid of me.”
If that's the case, I guess we'll have to send someone to keep an eye on Mrs. Cross and ensure her safety when we're not around. However, I'm afraid the candidates available are no match for the hitmen from the Goldstein family! What should we do if anything happens to Mrs. Cross?”
Nathan went dead silent at that score because he was aware of the reason he was dispatched back to the North—the Goldstein family wanted to threaten him with his wife.
He was in a tight spot because there wasn't a win-win solution.
Nathan didn't make his way back home with Penny. Instead, he boarded another flight to the North and departed after he bade farewell with his loved ones at the airport.
Meanwhile, Leaser, who was in Brimmopolis, was shocked by the news of Willow and his party's failure. He reprimanded Faustus, “What sort of fool have you dispatched? Can't they even carry out such a simple instruction?”
Faustus replied with an awkward smile, “I didn't expect Nathan would change his mind abruptly when we were halfway through. He decided to send Penny back to Channing before heading over to the North. Nathan's presence had ruined Willow and his men's effort.”
He paused for a few seconds before stating, “Don't worry, Mr. Goldstein. Since Nathan has departed to the North, we can deal with Penny however we desire since no one is around to
protect him!”
Ceaser scoffed, “I'll deal with her myself this time! I want you to gather a team of elites and join me for a trip to Channing! We'll definitely gₑt Penny!” “Yes!”
