Just when the Cabinet meeting ended, Quent entered in a hurry and whispered in Clifford's ear.
Clifford's expression changed drastically, taking on a solemn tone. It was as if he had aged many years.
Hansel, together with Zion, Garrett, and the other members of the Cabinet notice the change and were shocked. All of them wondered what was it that triggered such a reaction.
Hansel asked, “Clifford, what happened?”
Zion, Garrett, and the others turned their attention to Clifford.
Within the Cabinet, everyone was well aware of how shrewd Clifford was. He was always rock solid from an emotional standpoint and nothing would be able to surprise him.
Given the drastic change in his expression. It was obvious that something dreadful must have happened.
Clifford shook his head and stood up with Quent's support. Facing Hansel and the others, he replied, “Thank you President Windsor and all of you for your concern. I'm just feeling under the wind, that's all. Since the meeting is over, I'll take my leave first.”
Just as he spoke, he waved his hand for Quent to help him leave.
Hansel and the others frowned as they watched Clifford go.
At that moment, Hailey rushed in with a strange expression and reported to Hansel, “President Windsor, I have something urgent to report. As you were in the Cabinet meeting, I dared not disrupt you with it.”
Hailey and Zion exchanged glances before instructing, “What is it? Speak.”
Hailey related Ceaser's gruesome death to them.
Hansel and the others were shocked to have heard it.
Hailey murmured, “There are rumors that Nathan was the one who sent men to kill Ceaser.”
Hansel sneered, “It's fine if the ignorant public gossips about it. But since you know it's just a rumor, don't you realize that it's inappropriate to spread it?”
Hailey hung her head, “I'm sorry. It was my mistake.”
Hansel's gaze was filled with concern. Nathan and Clifford's hatred for each other is deep enough already. Given what has happened, it will only serve to add fuel to fire.
The other members of the Cabinet exchanged glances with each other.
It appeared to them that the feud between Nathan and Clifford had escalated to the extent it was a matter of life and death.
Meanwhile, Garrett remained deep in thought. From his perspective, Nathan wouldn't commit such an impulsive act. Besides, it wasn't consistent with his disposition too. So, what is really going on here?
Despite remaining calm on the surface, Zion's mind was already in turmoil.
In the afternoon, Nathan arrived with Penny at the White House.
Camilla received them warmly and held onto
Penny's hand. “Penny, I've planted some new orchids in the garden. Come, let's go and see how well they have grown, shall we?”
Penny replied with a smile, “Of course!”
Camilla then turned to Nathan. “Hansel is waiting for you in the study. Hurry up and see him. Also, watch out for his temper.”
Smiling wryly, Nathan nodded. “Alright!”
Nathan knew that what he had done recently had caused Hansel to be upset.
It mainly related to the elections. He figured that Hansel was already aware that he was supporting Garrett instead of Zion as previously instructed.
Moreover, Ceaser's death would only serve to add fuel to fire to his feud with Clifford.
Therefore, Hansel must be worried that the situation would get out of hand. And hence ordered him over to personally ask about it.
