Garrett turned to look at Nathan and asked, “Chief Military Governor, Mr. Davier and the other ministers want to test your capability. You have to pass the assessment to earn their approval. Do you agree to accept the challenge?”
Upon hearing that, the corner of Nathan's lips twitched as he said indifferently, “It is completely normal that the cabinet members are worried about the Chief Military Governor's position being held by an incompetent person, which could eventually cause the nation's downfall. Therefore, I'm willing to accept the challenge to prove my ability.”
Garrett nodded when he heard the former's words. “Very good! So, Mr. Davier, what are you going to do to assess the Chief Military Governor? Please let us know.”
Clifford wasn't in a hurry to make it hot for Nathan, so he shot Jothan a glance.
The latter got the message and stepped forward. “Let me do it!”
Jothan graduated from the National Defense University, so he had some insights into national security. Furthermore, he was frequently involved in military construction projects, so he was knowledgeable in this field.
He looked at Nathan and sneered, “Since ancient times, theory always comes before practice. Theories are the basis of practice while practice validates theories. Theory without practice is just as pointless as practice without theory. So, let me test your basic knowledge on national defense!”
Nathan replied with a smile, “Sure, Mr. Marlin. Let's start right away.”
With that, Jothan bombarded him with a string of difficult questions without any hesitation. Those were the serious problems that Eurasia was facing at that time. Without years of real experience as a military commander, one would not be able to give good answers.
If Nathan couldn't answer the questions well, people would be able to tell that he was just an armchair strategist.
And that was Jothan's motive!
This Chief Military Governor appeared out of nowhere. Even if he had learned a lot about national defense, he is just all talk and no action.
Jothan was trying to expose Nathan's shortcomings that he could only formulate military strategies but had no personal experience in the field.
To their surprise, Nathan managed to answer Jothan's questions calmly after pondering for a moment. Moreover, his answers were flawless, with logical reasoning to back them up.
Jothan was dumbfounded!
Clifford and the others were shocked too. They stared wide-eyed at Nathan when they heard his answers.
At that moment, a thought flashed past their mind. Where did this guy come from? Without years of experience in the field as a commander, no one would be able to give such flawless answers!
Although Garrett had no doubts about Nathan's competency, he was happy to let the Cabinet ministers test the latter's capability.
He wanted to see for himself how strong Nathan was. If the latter could pass the test, it would prove that he had chosen the right candidate, and he would be more confident in his decision to appoint Nathan as the Chief Military Governor.
Gradually, everyone realized that the guy in front of them was the real deal.
Seeing that, Clifford couldn't take it anymore.
He stepped forward and said aloud, “It seems that you have passed the theoretical test on national defense. However, since the Chief Military Governor is the highest position in the military, I have to assess your martial arts skills as well.”
“How are you going to test me, Mr. Davier?” queried Nathan.
“I will gather all the best fighters from the East, West, South, North, and Capital Garrison. If you are able to defeat all of them, I will acknowledge you as the Chief Military Governor,” said Clifford in a solemn tone.
Hearing that, Garrett couldn't help but blurt out, “So you're saying that in order to be the Chief
Military Governor, he has to be an all-rounder?” “President Woods, you're the one who gave us the permission to test him. As for the scope of the test, it's up to us to call the shots,” replied Clifford.
Right when Garrett was about to retort, Nathan said, “President Woods, since Mr. Davier wants to test my martial arts ability, I accept the challenge. I'm willing to have a fight with anyone, including the best fighter in the country.”
Upon hearing Nathan's words, Clifford said with a sneer, “Alright then, it's decided!”
