Meanwhile, in the sedan, Nathan was giving out new orders to his team.
Turning to Colin, he said, “There's one other sniper team in the nine o'clock direction. Give yourself a moment to prepare for this. I'll distract the enemy to give you a chance to kill them off cleanly.”
Colin quickly replied, “Sir, how can you risk your life to act as a decoy?”
The others from the Elite Eight who were listening in on the conversation also protested through their walkie-talkies. “Colin is right, Sir! We can do it instead!”
However, Nathan seemed to be firm and assertive in his decision. “I'm a soldier, not a king. Stop talking and start moving! Act according to
my plan!”
Colin and those from the Elite Eight could only comply.
After three counts, Nathan speedily charged out of the car door like a leopard.
As it turned out, the sniper from the Demon Troopers called Adler was rather aggressive.
The moment that Nathan emerged from the sedan, gunshots could be heard firing from the hill some distance away.
Bang!
A bullet landed right behind Nathan's heel, causing a splash of mud on the ground.
Adler was fuming upon seeing Nathan dodge his shot.
Focusing all his attention on Nathan, he adjusted his rifle according to Nathan's movements and continued firing his shots.
Adler blasted a few consecutive shots, but the bullets seemed to only hit Nathan's shadows. Splashes of mud erupted closely behind Nathan, like ominous flowers blooming in the battlefields.
Adler's eyes were filled with both anger and shock.
Why did none of my shots hit him? When have my skills deteriorated to the point where I can't even hit a moving target?
Just as Adler wallowed in rage and angst, Colin had gotten off the sedan and readied his sniper rifle. Pointing to his nine o'clock direction, he fired a shot unhesitantly.
Bang!
Another sniper down.
Apocalypse, who stood at the back of the
Demon Troopers, clenched his fists upon hearing the gunshots. “They are outnumbered, and they only have one sniper rifle. With limited bullets, they can't take all of us down. Demon Troopers! Charge! Find and restrain Nathan from his hiding spot! We shall skin him like a dog!” he bellowed.
“Yes, sir!”
With that, the members of the Demon Troopers charged forward with their sub-machine guns, like a pack of vicious wolves.
Unbeknownst to them, the members of the Elite Eight were also armed with sub-machine guns. When the Demon Troopers came in sight, the Elite Eight began blasting their heads off, swinging their guns and swiping the area ahead of them with bullets.
As for the Demon Troopers, all of those at the front of the team was sacrificed as the rest scuttered around, desperately trying to find a
place to hide.
With many of the Demon Troopers hiding in spots that were not in view, the Elite Eight halted their gunshots and moved forward tentatively. The tension in the air was palpable.
As the two parties continued to be mired in a stalemate, everyone eventually forgot to keep an eye out for Nathan.
While they were all distracted with the enemies standing before them, Nathan had made his way toward the back of the unit of Demon Troopers after taking a long run around the hill.
