Chapter 1961 is a standout chapter in Salute To The General (Nathan Cross) by Giselle, where the pace intensifies and character dynamics evolve. Rich in drama and tension, this part of the story grips readers and pushes the Novel narrative into new territory.
Nathan and his family packed up and moved to the Smith family's house to stay there for two days.
Following the weekend, Queenie and the rest of the Smith children were enjoying themselves in the courtyard.
Nathan sat on a rattan chair under a grape rack at the courtyard with a book in his hand and some tea on the table that Penny had personally made for him. The corners of his lips curled into a smile as he watched the children playing.
In that moment, Penny brought a plate of pastries to Nathan and said with a smile, “Nathan, these are some pretzels my mom and I have made together. Have a taste.”
Nathan grabbed a piece, bit into it, and responded with a smile, “It tastes good.”
Penny blushed and said, “If you like it, I'll make some more for you when I have the time next time.”
As Nathan sat Penny down next to him, he replied smilingly, “Come on. Since you're the chairman of the Cross Group, you're pretty busy all the time. How would you have time to make snacks for me?”
Penny responded seriously instead, “Cross Group's new cancer vaccine projects have reached a critical point recently. When the few projects have been developed and launched successfully into the market, I will gradually step back and manage from behind the scenes. Ultimately, being a good mother and wife is my greatest wish.”
As he embraced his wife while watching his daughter play with the children from a distance, he thought to himself. I've always wanted to be with my family too.
However, time never waits for anyone.
Certainly, he had so many enemies abroad, and all those people were waiting for a chance to take revenge on him. Even in his own country, quite a few people wanted him dead as well. The Davier family and the Goldsteins for instance.
Even though he wanted to leave authority behind and return fully to his family, it wasn't easy!
Secondly, he was held in high regard by President Woods and entrusted with many responsibilities as well.
After being appointed as Eurasia's Chief Military Governor, he was now responsible for the military defense of the entire country. So, he couldn't just return home whenever he wanted.
As he stared at his daughter playing with the rest of the kids at a distance whilst embracing his wife in his arms, he said softly, “I also wish I could retire early so I could spend some quality with my family.”.
Penny and her husband snuggled up while sharing this rare moment of intimacy.
As the women scurried over, they carried the children inside the house. As Penny hugged her daughter, she hid behind Nathan as well.
“Nathan, you probably didn't expect that we would meet again so soon, but today is the day that you must pay for the damage you've caused.” Sherman, who was sitting in a wheelchair, spoke through gritted teeth as his eyes reddened with fury.
Penny, Sean and the others couldn't help but stare at Nathan worriedly.
As Nathan remained seated, he picked up his cup of tea and took a sip, then asked flatly, “Sherman, since you escaped earlier, why did you come back to die once again?”
Sherman's eyes widened as he angrily exclaimed, “Nathan, how dare you behave in such an impudent manner in front of Kelvin.” Kelvin covered his mouth with a handkerchief and coughed a few times.
Moments later, he shifted his gaze and took a closer look at Nathan while asking, “So you are the former General of the North, Nathan, who was also known as Eurasia's God of War?”
Nathan replied calmly, “That is all in the past.”
Kelvin nodded as he said, “I've heard that you were removed from your post and given a false title because you've offended Mr. Davier. Even if you didn't offend the Goldstein family this time, since Mr. Davier has his eye on you, you'll be in trouble sooner or later regardless. Nathan, I see that you're a person with talents too. If you're willing to surrender to Mr. Rax and serve him from now on, I can plead on your behalf so that he will spare you from death and even take you in."
