Freddy's eyes were full of amusement as he mocked, “What the hell? I'm surprised you have the gall to claim that you serve your country. You're just a security guard! You're on a completely different level from us that contributes nothing to society!”
Jaeden's face fell, afraid that Nathan might get angry and beat Freddy up.
He quickly tugged Nathan into his seat, smiling awkwardly as he tried to resolve the malicious environment. “They're just joking. It's just what you do, they don't mean anything by it!”
Looking over his shoulder, Jaeden called out, “Waiter! Get me a bottle of wine. I want to enjoy a good drink with my friends and classmates.” “There's no need for any of the restaurant's trashy wine,” Freddy cut in. “I brought my own wine."
Reaching under the table, he presented two bottles of wine to everyone.
The bottles looked ordinary at first sight, but upon closer inspection, there was a piece of paper attached to the bottles.
The paper had an illustration of a dragon on it, along with the words: “For the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor”.
Jaeden and his friends gasped, exclaiming loudly. “Holy crap! T-That's the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor's special wine! This is what the Chief Military Governor serves to his military commanders! You're amazing, Director Loran! How did you get your hands on this?” “The winery recently shipped out a batch of this special wine to the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor,” Freddy sniggered proudly. “This wine is only consumed by the highest commanders of Eurasia.
“I went through great difficulty to ask a friend to save a box for me, so I thought I'd bring some with me today to let you all have a taste of luxury for once.”
“This is the special wine solely for the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor! To think that us lowly peasants would be able to drink the same wine that the Chief Military Governor drinks... What an honor!” Jaeden praised. He scrambled to open the bottles of wine, pouring out a glass for Freddy before everyone else.
Freddy scoffed as he watched Jaeden serve Nathan a glass of wine. “What a waste of perfectly good alcohol!”
Jaeden was starting to break out into a cold sweat, stumbling over himself as he held up his wine glass. “Come on! Let's toast to Director Loran, who has graced us with the privilege of tasting the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor's special wine.”
Freddy clinked glasses with Jaeden and the rest of his classmates but wasn't shy to show his disdain for Nathan by completely ignoring him.
Worried that Nathan might feel embarrassed, Jaeden quickly clinked glasses with Nathan. “Cheers, Mr. Cross.”
Nathan just smiled, raising the glass to his lips.
“The new Chief Military Governor has only been recently appointed, and this wine is newly produced. How could you have drunk it already? I know you like to maintain a certain image and you feel bad because of Director Loran's comments, but you shouldn't lie your way out of proportion. You'll only become more of a laughing stock.”
Nathan raised an eyebrow. “I'm not lying. I have indeed drunk this wine many times, and I can tell by the taste of it that this isn't genuine wine from Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor. This is a knock-off.”
A knock-off?
Upon hearing that, everyone looked towards
Freddy.
“Deputy Director Loran, it's not wrong to show off every now and then. But still, it's wrong to be serving fake wine to your friends, no?” Nathan chuckled.
Freddy's face flushed red.
