Valois composed himself and said, “This incident involved not only us and that bastard but also two more people.”

“One of them is Nathan Cross, and the other person is the Chief Military Governor!”

Clifford nodded his head gently.

“We all know Nathan is our arch-enemy,” Valois continued, ”He intentionally sent Sophia and Raida back to humiliate us. We'll eventually teach him a lesson for doing this to us.”

“But now, we have to apologize to the Chief Military Governor,” he suggested.

Clifford concurred, “You're right.”

Valois was pleased that they were on the same page. “Let's send an exquisite gift over to express our sincerest apology.

“Though we're not at fault, we still have to show him we're sorry for the things that had happened.”

Clifford nodded in agreement. “Let's do it then. I want you to send the gift over personally.

“Since you're an important member of the family, I'm sure he'll appreciate our sincere apology.”

“Also, go to my study and get the abstract painting, Eternal Toil. Bring it along and give it to the Chief Military Governor.”

Valois' eyes widened. “But that's Mr. Wyland's most exquisite and expensive masterpiece!

“And it's your favorite art piece. Are you sure you

want to...”

He responded in a calm voice. “Only a gift like this can prove our sincerity.”

Valois went up and whispered in Clifford's ear, “Are you still thinking of marrying a Davier into his family?”

Clifford replied, “The Chief Military Governor holds the greatest military power, and I'm the Cabinet secretary.”

“Imagine the power we would have if the two families unite,” he explained, “We would even have control over the President.”

In the study of the Chief Military Governor's Grand Council, Nathan was going through some important documents. He was dressed in the phoenix military coat and had a Leviathan mask on.

Instead of spending time with his family at the summer camp, he decided to return to the headquarters to go through all the documents.

Nathan turned to Sage, who was standing beside him, and said, “Tell me about the Daviers' reaction.”

Sage reported, “Clifford was shocked, embarrassed, and mad.”

Nathan grinned. “Good.”

“I wonder what their reaction would be if they find out you're the Chief Military Governor,” Sage whispered.

Nathan responded with another smile. “They must have hated me to the core. I bet they must be thinking of ways to please the Chief Military Governor now.”

Just after he made that remark, a soldier marched right in and reported, “Sir, Valois Davier would like to meet you.”

Nathan turned around and looked at Sage. “Speak of the devil.”
