That night, both Nathan and Penny stayed over at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.
Spook had sent his men to keep a lookout for Penny. She had not left the entire night.
The following morning, Nathan remained at the headquarters to work. On the other hand, Penny, accompanied by a few guards, made their way to summer camp so she could spend time with her daughter.
Shortly after she left, Nathan donned on his phoenix military coat along with his Leviathan mask. The attire demonstrated his position as Chief Military Governor. He made his way to the hall for a meeting with the other commanders.
Meanwhile, Spook had reported Penny's
movement to both Clifford and Valois.
Upon hearing his report, they both snickered. “This proves our guess right. Nathan is indeed using Penny to curry favor with the Chief Military Governor. He's trying to make a comeback.”
Clifford laughed sarcastically. “How very gracious of him. But he'll soon realize, that will cost her life. Gather our men, it's time we end him.”
Valois answered with vigour, “Roger that!”
Both of them had come up with an elaborated plan to take down Nathan. They intended to finish him with this one attack.
Meanwhile, Shae had not slept for an entire night.
She had remained in high spirits ever since she knew of her arranged marriage with the Chief
Military Governor. She looked forward to being his wife.
Yet his cold attitude towards her the previous night had left her feeling crestfallen.
His indifferent attitude perplexed her. With her good looks and prestigious educational background, there was nothing she lacked. They were compatible in all aspects.
Above all, she could not understand why he was attracted to Penny.
After contemplating the entire night, she decided to make a move on the woman.
Shae needed to know how Penny had gotten the Chief Military Governor to fall for her and eliminate her.
Her men had noticed him, too, and they readied their stance for battle.
“What are you here for?” the elderly man asked. The unsettling look in his eyes was gone; he looked just like any regular old man.
Shae regained her senses and replied hastily, “To buy a casket.”
“How many?”
“One for now. May need more depending on the situation.”
The hunched man studied her for a good while before enquiring, “Who' re you buying for?” “My enemy, Penny. She's not dead. Yet. Think you could help me?”
“Doesn't seem to be something I can help you with.”
Shae smirked. “Oh really? Last I heard, the Death Reaper was supposed to be a professional at this.”
Death Reaper was Brimmopolis' most ancient and mysterious assassination group.
