The next day.
Penny, escorted by Ava, drove to the mall for grocery shopping.
Once she was done, she walked in front with Ava holding the shopping bags behind her.
They took the elevator and arrived at the basement car park.
Before they reached their car, a black Bentley suddenly drove in their direction with its headlights flaring. The lights were so glaring that Penny could barely open her eyes.
“Watch out!”
Dropping the shopping bags she was holding, Ava pulled Penny to safety behind a pillar.
At the same moment, she drew her gun from her hips.
Suddenly, they could hear rapid footsteps in every direction and were quickly surrounded by a large group of men.
In a blink of an eye, two hundred men in black suits and leather shoes had Penny and Eva boxed in a circle.
All of them were at least one point eight meters tall. They appeared to be well trained and had fearsome expressions.
Meanwhile, Penny noticed that the men had the insignia of the Davier family embroidered on the cuffs of their suits.
Evidently, they belonged to the Davier family.
Ava grew anxious immediately. If she was alone, she would still be able to fight her way out. But to protect Penny while doing so was a more challenging endeavor.
Not having a phone signal in the car park made the situation worse.
It appeared that the Davier family was well prepared. Not only was the quiet car park a great place for an ambush, the fact that there was no signal meant that communications with the outside world had also been cut off.
Penny's expression changed drastically.
Ava reassured her, “Mrs. Cross, don't be afraid. I will carve out an escape route paved with blood. When you have the opportunity to run, go ahead and I will hold the rear.”
Before Penny could reply, a few men alighted from the Bentley in front of them, which still had its headlights on. The person leading them was about forty to fifty years old. He was dressed in a black suit, had sharp features, greying sideburns, and an exceptionally sharp gaze.
Valois plainly explained, “I'm sure you are aware that the Davier family will have a final showdown with Nathan the day after tomorrow.”
Penny snapped, “And?”
Valois continued, “The Davier family is extremely strong while Nathan is a nobody now.
Furthermore, the President and Chief Military Governor have professed that they will not support him. I'm guessing the reason why Nathan is not trying to gather more reinforcements is that he knows his time has come.
Penny frowned in response.
It's true that Nathan has been spending time with family and not going around to canvass support.
Penny sneered, “What are you trying to say?”
Valois continued, “My brother's children were killed by Nathan. Therefore his intention is to exact revenge by killing him. But, unlike him, I see the issue from a different perspective.”
Valois added, “Killing Nathan will not bring his dead children back. Instead, I feel we should always look ahead. I understand that you are rich. Therefore, if you are willing to transfer your shares in Cross Group to the Davier family, I can request my brother to spare Nathan's life in exchange. What do you think?”
