Meanwhile, Valois strode into a skyscraper with Penny and Ava following him from behind.
They had arrived at the office of Valois' private company.
Once they entered the building, Penny and Ava began to grow increasingly anxious.
Inside, they noticed that there were security guards everywhere and it was extremely well secured.
When Penny agreed to transfer the shares of Cross Group to Valois, it was just a ruse to leave the car park where there wasn't any reception. Once they were outside, they could then send a distress signal out.
But now, given how tight security was, she began to worry if she could hold out long enough till Nathan arrived.
Soon, Valois led Penny and Ava to the top floor where the president's office was located.
He walked toward the president's chair beside the full-length windows and plonked himself into it. Crossing his legs on the table, he lit a cigar and sneered, “Mrs. Cross, please have a seat. Don't have to be a stranger here. Haha.”
The office was a few hundred square meters big and could contain hundreds of Valois' subordinates. They were all standing in attention in front of him and glaring fiercely at Penny and Ava.
One of them stood out in particular.
He had a head of messy hair. Although the weather was clear, he wore a black raincoat and held a sharp blade in his hand. At that moment, he was trimming his nails with the knife and would give Ava an occasional glare.
He was Valois' top henchman, Diablo.
Diablo used to be an elite assassin. Although he had never reached the position of King of Assassins and only had more than ten assassinations credited to him, he was still famous within the assassins' world.
Despite having performed slightly more than ten assassinations, all his targets were considered high profile and almost impossible to kill.
Among his victims were the God of War of Astraunia, the President of Xyperia, and the militia chief of Minalur.
These were heavily guarded leaders or invincible God of Wars. All of them had died by Diablo's
swo rd.
Therefore, Diablo didn't climb the ranks to achieve the title of King of Assassins as his number of kills was too low. Nevertheless, he was still considered a legend among his peers.
However, a few years ago, he had a fallout with his manager.
In a fit of rage, he killed his manager and massacred everyone that worked at the assassination company. After that, he retired as an assassin and fled back to Eurasia.
As he was indebted to Valois, he willingly offered to work as Valois' bodyguard and top henchman.
After skimming through it, Valois slid the contract across the table toward Penny.
Barely smiling, he requested, “Mrs. Cross, please sign it. Once you have signed the share transfer agreement, your husband's life will be spared.”
Penny was feeling extremely anxious as she wondered if Nathan received her distress signal and whether he was on his way.
At the current state, all she could do was to buy
time.
She pretended to pick up the contract in earnest and remarked, “Let me go through it first.”
Valois frowned. “It's a share transfer agreement. What is there to see? Just sign it.”
Penny explained, “This relates to trillions worth of shares and also my husband's life. Of course, I have to make sure that everything is in order before I sign it.”
Valois could faintly sense that she was trying to buy time. However, Penny did have a point, so it was difficult for him to deny her.
He snapped, “The contract only has a few pages. Under ordinary circumstances, one only needs ten minutes. But, I understand that you want to go through it slowly. So, I will allow you a full thirty minutes. If you don't sign it by then, it shows that you’re lying to me. By then, you will face the consequences.”
