|Present|

"Hey Scarlett! Wait up!" Jace's voice halted me in the college hallway.

I gave him a grin.

"Hi Jace." I greeted him shyly.

So far, Jace was the only friend I had right now. Danielle refused to even look at me and I had no idea where Megan was.

His green eyes crinkled at the corners as he gave me his heart-stopping, dimpled smile.

"I haven't seen you around lately." He commented.

I sighed, "Yeah, I've been busy. I've got a ton of work piled up since I joined two months into the semester."

I watched his eyes as they read my lips.

I noticed that he'd stopped wearing hearing-aids.

"I could help you out if you want." Jace's kind voice suggested.

"I'd like that." I could feel my smile widen.

"Sorry to interrupt your little love session but you're blocking the way." A cold voice growled from behind us.

I turned to find Hunter glaring in our direction.

I could feel my stomach flip when his intense gaze fixated on me.

"Sorry." Jace said politely as he stepped aside.

Hunter gave him a cold look, he bumped his shoulder into Jace's harshly before walking away.

I gaped behind him in shock.

How rude.

I gave Jace a questioning look but he just shrugged like it was no big deal.

"You guys used to be best friends. What happened?" I choked out.

He sighed, "A lot has changed Bambi." His expression saddened.

"Why did you let him talk to you like that?" I demanded.

Jace gave me a sad smile. "It's okay Scarlett. He's just been through a lot."

"That doesn't give him the right to be an ass!" I spat out.

Jace's expression suddenly became serious. His hand suddenly grasped my arm and he started tugging me in the opposite direction.

"Jace what are you doing?" I screeched.

"I need to show you something." Was his vague response.

"Where are you taking me?" I demanded.

He wasn't looking at me so I knew he didn't know what I was saying.

I finally gave up resisting and let him take me.

Class would have to wait.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Jace got out of the car and moved to open my door.
He had driven in complete silence. Not giving me any clue to where he was taking me.
I took in my surroundings.
We were at the cemetery?
"You plan on killing me?" I tried to joke but the feeling of dread started to claw inside me.
Jace didn't answer me.
He just started walking and I had no choice but to follow him.
I shuddered involuntarily as we passed the numerous headstones.
I hated graveyards.
The last time I'd been in one I had said goodbye to my mother.
My whole body was shaking. The awful feeling wasn't going away.
Suddenly Jace halted, making me collide with his hard back.
It took me a moment to realize that he had stopped in front of a grave.
I could feel the blood pounding my ears as I stepped out from behind him.I could feel the breath leave my lungs as my eyes fell on the marble headstone.
No
No
NO!
A strangled cry left my lips as I sunk to the ground. My legs refused to support me.
