Jacob didn't speak for a long time. This wasn't the assurance he wanted, but it was enough for him.

"Okay," he said slowly, stepping back and waving to Frey before disappearing into the darkness.

As Jacob walked away, Frey felt a chill all over, her back drenched with a fine layer of sweat.

She took a deep breath, turned, and walked into the apartment building. Her steps were a bit unsteady. She didn't notice the ordinary off-road vehicle parked across the street where Nathaniel sat quietly, his cigarette butt flickering in the dark.

Early the next morning, before Frey went to the company, she received a call from Mandy.

"Frey, Technologent Group asked our design department staff to come over today. The design draft has been handed over to the engineering team. They're hosting a multi-party meeting, and there's a social event afterward."

Frey nodded and promised to head over soon. This kind of thing was normal.

Their company was the designer, Technologent Group was the investor, and there was also third-party oversight from the municipal government, along with the leader of the engineering team.
