Freya fled in desperation until the sound of pursuing footsteps gradually faded. Soon, the only sounds that filled the air were her own footsteps, her labored breathing, and the occasional bark of a dog from a nearby courtyard. 

Freya was alone, her vision starting to blur. 

Eventually, she reached a dilapidated courtyard tucked away at the end of the alley. A broken water tank stood at the entrance, partially filled with water. 

Exhausted, Freya threw herself against the door next to the water tank, knocking heavily. 

“Who’s there?” Peyton’s voice echoed from inside, laced with panic that matched Freya’s owIL

She was practically kneeling at the door, clutching the rusty copper ring affixed to it. 

She had recently suffered a lung infection and nearly died. Now, after this strenuous run, she felt as though the air was seeping out of her lungs, accompanied by a prickling sensation. 

Her vision was sporadically obscured by darkness, and the world seemed to spin around her. 

“Fay!” Peyton recognized Freya’s voice and quickly opened the door, helping her inside. 

Freya was too exhausted to speak and allowed Peyton to guide her.. 

Peyton swiftly locked the courtyard door, barricading it with an old wooden chair. She then helped Freya towards the main room, sighing in relief. 

This part of Saeville was filled with old, undemolished buildings, some on the verge of collapse. 

People had once believed that Saeville would expand southward, given its proximity to the scenic Antique Street. As a result, they began to build densely packed houses in Brusville, hoping to receive relocation funds when the area was eventually demolished.
