Chapter 34
My hand went to a specific spot on my chest. That tlay.when I’d had that fight with Ashley, I was just a single contact away from being seriously injured.
Thank the goddess for the potion that eventually saved me, I would have died and it would have probably been too late to do anything
“You cunt!”
Jane had punched Ashley hard before I could even react. Ashley dropped to the ground with the grace of an elephant, groaning and screaming obscenities at us.
ignored her and continued to speak. “Haven’t you seen the news? Do you know who you tried to kill? Melanie is the Alpha Princess of the Luciano
Tamily.”
“Like I give a fuck.” Ashley coughed out before cackling out. If she looked crazy before, she was now borderline insane.
“Even if you’re the Alpha king’s princess, I don’t care. When you’re dead, you’ll be nothing but a pile of rotting flesh. Who’s going to save you then? Your lovely brothers?”
Blood rushed to my ears as all I could focus on was the anger that raged within me. I tightened my hands into fists, willing myself to transform. In my head, I could already see myself striking Ashley down.
Nothing.
By the look in her eyes, she must have realized it too. She began to clap her hands while laughing in that ever mocking voice.
“You can’t even transform.” She cackled. “How pathetic can you be?”
I bit my lip, unable to control my anger anymore. Ashley was in my line of sight and a good backhand would put her down quick enough:
“Ashley.”
My hand froze just as I raised it. Even now, that voice still had a way of sending a chill down my spine.
I turned to see Jack watching us. His gaze flicked to Ashley who was sitting on the ground and then to me.
“You dare lay your hands on my mate?” His eyes narrowed on me, glaring with nothing but hate in them.
Ibarely got in a word as he shifted into his wolf form and began running straight for me. I tried backing away but Jack only increased his speed, onyx eyes locked on my figure.
Oh no. There was no way I’d make it out in time.
Time seemed to slow down for one brief second. Jack’s predatory eyes remained locked on me, his claw outstretched in a bid to slash at my face.
One thought ran through my head in the midst of all this. Emma. She was probably at home at that moment, having no clue that her mother was in danger.
A gunshot rang through the air, the sharp should forcing Jack to a stop. I turned to see who the shot had come from and my heart paused for a split second.
Haelor.
He was standing a doorway, dark eyes fixed on the scene before him with a firearm pointed at Jack. His hair was tousled in a way that showed he had thrown all caution to the wind and rushed to the scene.
The puzzle of the gun was aimed at Jack. One single misstep and he would no doubt have a bullet–sized hole on the side of his head.
Jack’s eyes narrowed into slits as he watched Haelor cautiously. His attention was no longer on me. Haelor’s gaze briefly flicked to Ashley who was still on the ground and then to me.
He beckoned for me with a slight movement of his head. Not wasting a second, I grabbed Jane’s hand and kept her close as we ran to stand behind him.

“Are you alright?” He asked, eyes never leaving Jack’s crouching figure.
