Chapter 36
“You’re literally bleeding, Haelor.” I said, my tone coming out louder than I’d intended.
“Don’t sweat it.” He sent me a playful wink.
Despite his attempts at acting fine, I could notice how his face was suddenly looking pale. Jane’s head whipped back just as the Gamma Warriors began trickling in.
“They’re here.” Jane let out a breath.
Good,” He turned to me. “You’ll be safe now.”
Before I could thank him, his body slowly dropped to the floor.
I didn’t know how long I’d simply been staring into space. On top of that, I’d been absentmindedly stimming, my legs slowly shaking without me even realizing it
My eyes flicked to Haelor who laid peacefully on the hospital bed. Even now as an adult, a part of me disliked the whole feel of a hospital.
It was too bland, cold and devoid of warmth. I was the only one in the room so far as the doctor had requested for only one relative to stay with him.
After Haelor passed out, the Gamma warriors had made light work of arresting all the rogue wolves, including Jack and Ashley while we rushed Haelor to the hospital.
Currently, Jack and his syndicate were all imprisoned. It served them right. As much as I would have loved to revel in the satisfaction of watching them all rot in prison, there was someone else more deserving of my attention.
Haelor.
He’d sacrificed himself to save me, over and over again. I wondered what would have happened if he hadn’t showed up.
Haelor’s face looked surprisingly soft as he laid unconscious. It was odd to see him in such a state as his expression was usually a hardened one, courtesy of being a general.
Staring at him now, the doctor’s words began to play in my head.
“He’s lucky you brought him here just in time. His former injuries have barely begun to heal. We’ll need to use some extra stitches to bring him back to full health.”
“Will he be okay?‘ I had asked, my voice coming out shaky.
The doctor’s gaze flicked to Haelor before he turned back to reply me. “He will be. All that matters is that he gets enough rest and recuperates. That’s
what matters.”
Now staring at him, I couldn’t help but let out a long breath. He’d been wounded in the war not long ago and was told he needed time to recuperate.
I had no doubt that he had rushed to save me when he heard that I’d gone alone. A sad smile tugged at my lips when the thought of him recruiting all the gamma soldiers and rushing to my rescue crossed my mind.
“Wake up already.” I said to him, my voice low and shaky with emotion.
After staring at him for a while, I allowed myself to lean back against the wall. For some reason, my eyes suddenly felt heavier and shutting them had
never felt so better.
I didn’t know how much time had passed when my eyes finally fluttered open. I first took in my surroundings before my eyes went down to my thighs.
I couldn’t wait to be out of here, preferably with Haelor. There was still so much I had to do. And also Emma. I had to see my daughter.
“Melanie.”
I’d never whipped my head up so far. Haelor’s eyes were fixed on me, a tender look in his eyes. For once, I was at a loss for words, not quite knowing what to say in this particular scenario.

Chapter 36
“Haelor I finally said.
His eyes seemed to soften even more at my word. “Are you okay? Is everything alright? You’re not hurt, are you?”
I–snapped out of my momentary gaze before fixing him with a weak glare, “why did you put yourself in danger? You could have gotten seriously hurt. And you knew you were still healing from that previous injury. You have to be more careful, Haelor.”
