Chapter 71
I knew I’d done my make–up really well before I left the palace. Was it my beauty then? He looked at
a loss for words.
After a while, he finally cleared his throat. Just when he was about to speak, I held a finger to my hips. He remained quiet.
Without another word, I slowly stepped back from him. The smile never left my face as I began to take off my jacket.
Each move was calm and calculated as I was very much aware of all the eyes that were focused on me. I handed the jacket to a maid before slowly making a small twirl.
For the occasion, I’d chosen a snow–white dress and paired it off with the sapphire necklace that
rested around my neck.
The whispers and murmurs got louder as a couple of people drew closer. They took their time in admiring the dress, not bothering to hide their amazement.
“She looks so beautiful.”
Astonishing.”
“I expect nothing less from Princess Melanie.”
“Talk about flat out gorgeous.”
“You look amazing, Princess Melanie.”
I turned to see a nobleman standing there. His dirty blonde hair had been neatly styled. His hands were tucked into the pants of his suit as he stared at me.
“Why thank you.” I sent him a smile.
He put a hand on his chest before giving me a small bow. Of course, along with the compliments I got from other people came the taunts and snide remarks.
“What about her ex–mate?”
I turned to see a group of high ladies standing to the side. They regarded me with an air of arrogance surrounding them.

Chapter 71
I didn’t pay much heed to their words but that didn’t deter them at all. They continued with all their taunts and mockery.
“Yet she came here with another man. Talk about shameless.”
“I’m not surprise. He’s not the first man they’re seeing her with.”
“She must have her own harem of them at this point.”
“Crazy.”
I blocked out most of their noise and looked for Haelor instead. This was a dinner party, and I’d be
damned if I let a few chattering parrots ruin it for me.
“Melanie.”
I turned to see Quentin making his way towards me. His gaze had been burning right through my back and at some point, I’d wondered if he was even going to approach me before the night ended.
He simply stood there for a while, not saying anything. I folded my arms, sending him an amused
look.
“Aren’t you going to say anything?”
He cleared his throat. “What can I say that hasn’t already been said? You look incredibly beautiful,
Melanie.”
I simply hummed before my fingers found their way to the necklace. His eyes went down to them before finally raising back up to meet me.
Then it hit me. Quentin’s scent, hot and full of arousal. The look in his eyes mirrored his scent as
well.
I was single now, understandably so, but it wasn’t heat season for werewolves yet. So it made absolutely no sense that I’d be able to smell his scent.
The side of my face burned with the gaze of someone else. I turned to see who was standing close by. His gaze never left mine, even as Quentin fixed him a sour look.
Quentin drew closer to me, a calm look on his face. He looked perfectly fine, steady breathing and a cool demeanour. And yet, I could still smell it.
That scent of arousal that seemed to go all the way up my nose and put me in a suffocating hold. His gaze dropped back to the necklace on my neck.
