Lucas' cold, dark eyes lingered on her face for a few seconds, seemingly thoughtful. He then chuckled and said, "Alright, suit yourself."

He turned and walked into the washroom. He didn't seem intent on forcing it. Probably didn't want it in the first place.

Evelyn couldn't be bothered to guess what he was thinking. She massaged her brow in frustration.

Maria staying over had been unexpected. It also seemed like she was planning to stay for a few days, but she couldn't keep coming over.

She thought it was a decent plan. That way, Maria wouldn't overthink anything.

The New Year was approaching. She figured Lucas was planning to let Maria peacefully enjoy the holiday before coming clean.

Lucas walked to the bedside. Whatever message that was sent to him caused him to smile faintly. After replying, he finally looked up at her.

"A business trip?"
