Evelyn had thought about doing her postgraduate studies under Graham for a long time.
She had given up on herself too early back then, becoming a sacrificial figure for the Harrisons, for Blake, and later for Lucas. She had never really lived for herself.
But how could she not have dreams and aspirations of her own?
Now, with a sudden clarity, she realized that time was more valuable than anything. No matter if she could pass the exams or pursue further studies, she just wanted to try again.
Sebastian paused, glancing at Evelyn.
It took Graham a moment to process what Evelyn had said before he clapped his hand on the table, exclaiming, "Good! Why not? It's never too late to start over—no matter when!"
He gave a big smile. Then, after a moment of reflection, his expression shifted to a mock frown. "But don't go around talking like it's easy to just waltz into my graduate program, okay?"
"Exactly. Why not choose another professor? This old man hasn't taken on students in three years. Who knows if his standards are even up to par?" Sebastian raised an eyebrow.
"You little brat! Don't talk nonsense!" Graham swatted at him playfully.
Evelyn watched the exchange, a soft smile forming on her lips. It felt good to have this moment of peace.
Once the Flying Seal Group project was on track, she would begin preparing for the exams.
Whether her illness could be treated or not, as long as her health allowed, she would not leave any regrets behind.
…
On Thursday morning, after finishing a project planning meeting with Sebastian, Charles, and the team, Evelyn received a call from Michael.
"Ms. Reed, do you have time this afternoon? Mr. Grant has arranged for the property transfer paperwork, and he needs you to come sign the documents."
Evelyn checked the time, noting it was already past 11:00 am. Even if she wanted to send a lawyer to handle it, it was too late. So, she agreed. "Sure. Where should I go?"
Michael maintained his neutral tone. "Please come to the CEO's office at Bluezen around noon."
"Alright," Evelyn agreed.
The divorce process was tedious, but it was absolutely necessary. When Lucas mentioned the property transfer after the divorce previously, she thought it would take a while. To her surprise, she was being notified so soon.
As she settled, her gaze immediately caught sight of a beige suit jacket that looked like it belonged to a woman. It hung on a coat rack in the open doorway to the rest area.
In an office decorated with cool tones and heavy with the atmosphere of work, that suit jacket stood out. It was glaringly out of place.
She could easily imagine the owner of the suit jacket being allowed to freely enter the office, even having permission to use the private lounge area.
Evelyn only glanced at it briefly before dismissing it, turning her gaze elsewhere.
"Ms. Reed, would you like some coffee?" the secretary offered, bringing her a cup.
Evelyn nodded in thanks but didn't touch the coffee. She waited for nearly half an hour before hearing footsteps approaching.
The door opened, and Lucas walked in, still speaking on his phone. His deep, calm voice carried from the phone. "Yes, I'll go over after I finish this."
He was on a video call.
Tiffany's soft, melodic laugh filtered through as if they had been chatting happily for a while. "Okay, I'll wait for you."
