Actually, Jason was a little surprised as well because Evelyn had asked him which hospital Lucas was in last night.
At the time, he had instinctively assumed that she asked because she was worried about Lucas and wanted to check in on him. Maybe she wanted to take care of him due to her past feelings or gratitude.
He hadn't expected her not to show up at all…
Mason was shocked this time.
"Don't you think she's been acting really weird lately?"
Then, as if a sudden thought struck him, he clapped his hands, saying, "Don't tell me Evelyn's actually with Sebastian?"
Maybe she thought Lucas was too hard to get to, so she settled for Sebastian, who was always around. Now that she was technically divorced, anything was possible, especially considering they had even worn matching scarves in the past.
Jason frowned.
He didn't believe Evelyn was the type to jump from one person to another so quickly. She wouldn't rush into another relationship right after a divorce. That kind of speculation just didn't seem fair toward her.
"You really should consider working as a paparazzo for the gossip rags," Lucas commented blandly, his tone cold and even. He faintly looked at Mason, clearly uninterested in his theories.
Mason, of course, was still thinking from Lucas' perspective.
He took out his phone and replied, "I just think she's being overboard by not caring at all when you're this badly hurt. I'm pretty sure I still have her number. Let me call and ask her."
Lucas seemed too tired to bother with Mason anymore. Looking down, he continued replying to his emails.
…
Evelyn had gotten up early.
For once, she felt pretty good, so she went for a walk in the park next to her building. When she returned home, she was in a leisurely mood and decided to make herself breakfast.
She had been swamped lately and hadn't cooked in a while.
She made some oatmeal, prepared some fruits, and fried some beautiful sunny-side-up eggs.
It was a rare sense of order in her life.
As she arrived, she happened to run into Michael, who was just stepping out of the room.
The moment Michael saw Evelyn, his expression turned a little complicated. "Ms. Reed, Mr. Grant just had his bandages changed. Are you here to stay and look after him?"
Evelyn paused and glanced at him without answering.
Sensing her indifference, he frowned and added, "If you have anything to talk about, please do so quickly. Ms. Moore will be arriving shortly."
"Is that Lucas' idea?" Evelyn asked.
The question silenced Michael instantly. His face flashed briefly with surprise and discomfort, telling her that it wasn't Lucas' idea.
Evelyn didn't look at him again. She pushed the door open and walked into the hospital room.
