Evelyn couldn't quite describe her feelings. It wasn't a disappointment. In fact, it felt more like an irony.

But now that she thought about it, it made sense. How could Lucas possibly deny the woman he loved a proper title?

Blake led her outside the restaurant to the parking lot.

She immediately broke free from his grip and calmly asked, "What do you have to say for yourself?"

He leaned against the car door. He understood that she must be furious right now.

The people who already betrayed her were her father, husband, and stepsister. And now… Blake?

Still, he knew that he stood above all of those people in Evelyn's heart. She would still listen to what he had to say.

"You knew Lucas wouldn't want anything to do with Lily," Blake said as he lit a cigarette. "Everyone can tell how much he cares about Tiffany."

Evelyn paused for a moment. He was right, and everyone thought so too.

"As for Lily, she's still my sister. I couldn't just stand there and do nothing." His gaze seemed relaxed as he said that, but the look in his eyes was serious when he glanced at her.

She initially believed that the series of events that happened today wouldn't faze her one bit after some time—until he said that.

So, he really was defending Lily.

He knew Lily and Selina had taken everything from Evelyn. Besides, not only did Evelyn lose her home and Naomi both. She had also suffered so much because of the mother-daughter pair. He witnessed all of that when it happened.

It used to hurt him so much that it left him heartbroken more than once, often holding back his tears. He then swore that he would climb to the top and protect Evelyn with all his power.

But now, Blake could say something this hurtful in such a calm manner.

"So what you're saying is, even though you knew that I wasn't in the wrong, you'd still side with Lily and expect me to let this slide?" Evelyn chuckled softly, a profound pain piercing through her heart as she looked at him and added, "You're the last person I thought would ever say that."

She nearly lost her life trying to save him once, and he was just going to pretend none of that ever happened?

Being sick of arguing all the time, she turned around and was about to leave.

A hint of irritation flickered across his nonchalant expression. He put out his cigarette and asked, "Want to grab dinner sometime? How about this weekend?"

He knew Evelyn was still upset, but she always had a childish temper. Taking her out for a meal and chatting would be enough to make her feel better.

She took a deep breath and was going to turn down his offer. "No—"

He wanted Evelyn to understand one thing—that he didn't belong to her alone.

She needed to grow up.

Justine wasn't hurt badly. She only suffered a few scratches from the scuffle earlier.

In her own words, she violently dug her brand-new manicures into the inside of Lily's arm a few times, making sure the bruise would linger for a week.

Evelyn burst out laughing after hearing that.

As for Lucas, she no longer paid any attention to him. She eventually got a mechanic to retrieve the car she had left at Grant Manot.

Unless the unexpected happened, she wouldn't be going back there anytime soon.

Leonard's birthday finally arrived. Evelyn had already prepared his gift a month in advance.

As she thought about something else before leaving, she made a trip to the shopping mall and picked out a gift for Leonard on Lucas' behalf. Then, she made her way to Deborah's house.
